WARNING: IT IS A FANFIC! SO IT DOES MENTION THINGS IN THE WARRIORS BOOKS! SO NO NEED TO OVERREACT ABOUT IT, OK!? (also It's a little long, I had to put half of it here and half of it in notes and credits. XD) Chapter 1. Jaypaw walked around the camp with confident pawsteps, he had been the medicine cat apprentice for a moon now, and he knew most of the herbs by heart. “Hi Jaypaw!” called a familiar voice. “Hello, Hollypaw” He said flatly. He walked through the thick shadows to the entrance to his den. “Jaypaw, thank goodness, I need you to find some coltsfoot for Rootshade, we're all out.” a voice from the back called. Jaypaw sighed, 'at least they don’t act like I'm a kit' he thought. “Ok, Smoketree.” he called to the shadows. Jaypaw turned and slipped out of the den again, heading for the camp entrance. He shoved himself through the familiar tree roots, and popped up in the hollow of the great tree. He parted his jaws, tasting the air for the honey-like smell of coltsfoot. He padded forward, and headed for the herb-patch that was planted right above their camp, next to the abandoned twoleg nest. When he arrived, he started to nip off some of the plants near the roots, but not too near that the roots wouldn’t survive. “STOP!” Jaypaw froze with three plants in his jaws. “ Turn around!” the strange voice called again. Jaypaw slowly turned around to face the strange cat. Dang it. He thought as he caught a whiff of the cat's pelt. Definitely not Umbraclan. “What are you doing in my herb patch?” the cat snapped. Jaypaw snorted “YOUR herb patch? This herb patch belongs to Umbraclan! Have you not smelled our scent marks? Or does your nose have grass in it.” he retorted. He picked up his herbs, turned, and stalked off, heading towards the great tree, leaving the cat staring wide-eyed at him. As he neared the great tree, he stopped. “I know you are following me, I’m not a mouse-brain like you clearly are.” Jaypaw called. He sensed the cat stiffen, clearly thinking that Jaypaw had no clue she was there. “Cats these days.” Jaypaw muttered crossly. He whipped around and split the ferns. “ I said, I'm not a mouse-brain! Only an idiot for a cat would think that I am!” he hissed around the herbs. “Alright, jeez.” the other cat mewed. “ I only wanted to see what this Umbraclan that you talked about was.” “ I told you what it was. Umbraclan. No go back to your stupid dent in the ground!” he hissed and turned around again. “ Oh, and stop following me…” “Ravenpelt, one of Thunderclan’s medicine cats.” “Then stop following me, Ravenpelt.” Jaypaw turned and shot away, streaking into the hole in the trunk that was hidden in the black shadows. He slowed to a trot as he made his way into the camp. Once he was back in the medicine den he went to the hidden juniper bush and pushed the coltsfoot inside with the rest of the herbs. “ Smoketree, I got the coltsfoot you asked for!” He heard paws running above the camp, then a screech of warning from Streamfall. I warned that cat not to follow me, and she disobeyed, she put her clanmates in danger to see our little clan. Jaypw thought smugly. He pricked his ears as he heard a screech of pain. His smug look dropped into a frown as he realized that it was Darkfeather. He trotted out of the den, wishing for the first time that he could see. He tasted the air. It was thick with Umbraclan scent. Darkfeather will need treatment, I’ll get the herbs ready. Suddenly he collapsed under a mound of fur. He screeched in surprise. He felt the sunlight on his pelt as the cat jumped off of him. The roof collapsed! He heard the other cat gasp. “ I’m so sorry! Where am I? Is this Umbraclan that Ravenpelt talked about?” the she-cat said in a jumble of words. He snorted. “Who are you? Also, why are you in my camp?” he hissed at the cat. “What'd you mean? So this IS Umbraclan camp?!” “No, it's Riverclan camp. OF COURSE IT'S UMBRACLAN CAMP! And you trespassed, just like Ravenpelt.” he snapped. The she-cat widened her eyes in surprise. “Ravenpelt? She’s been in here before?” “No, but she tried to stop me from getting my herbs at the herb patch!” “The herb patch? That belongs to Thunderclan!”
“No! It belongs to me and Umbraclan!” “You? Why you?” “Cause I’m a medicine cat!” “Why are YOU a medicine cat?” “Cause I’m BLIND and my FREAKING CLANMATES WON'T LET ME TRAIN TO BE A FREAKING WARRIOR.” Jaypaw snapped The she-cat gasped.” b-blind?” Jaypaw snorted, clearly annoyed at how horrified the she-cat was. “My name is Jaypaw, I am Umbraclan’s medicine cat apprentice. And I do not appreciate being treated like some helpless cat!” He snapped, his tail lashing, clearly closing the topic. “I’m Twigpaw, Thunderclan’s only current apprentice” Jaypaw heard running paws. He stiffened. The cats the paws belonged to did not smell like Umbraclan, and there were too many to be Umbraclan. Twigpaw saw this and hurt shimmered in her eyes. “ What's wrong… d-did I say something wrong?” she asked, worry clouding her mew. “You have done nothing wrong, but your clan is coming, and if there is a battle…. Then I won’t be here to chat with you and encourage you” he mewed quietly. Twigpaw stiffened as she finally heard the pawsteps “I found the entrance!” a cat exclaimed “Twigpaw! We're coming for you!” another one yowled. Jaypaw sighed, “go to them.” he said softly. “No! What if they killed one of your clanmates!? I need to stay until I know for sure what happened!” she answered confidently. “Twigpaw?” Jaypaw said slowly. “Come back, please?” “Of course Jaypaw!” she mewed, excitement tingling her mew. “Twigpaw! There you are! We've been looking everywhere for you! I found her!” a she-cat padded up to Twigpaw and tried to nuzzle her, but Twigpaw sprang away. “ you didn’t kill them did you!?” she meowed quietly. Jaypaw sat quietly, silently, waiting to hear his clanmates. The cat stiffened. “W-who?” her voice was taught with fear. Jaypaw stood up. “My clanmates! You hurt them badly didn’t you. They are up there dying!” he yowled. The she-cats ears flipped back. “Who are you?” she demanded. “That is none of your business, if you want to know so much, ask Twigpaw, but I doubt she’d tell you.” he hissed at her, then turned and stalked towards the entrance. “Jaypaw wait! I’m coming with you.” Twigpaw yowled after him. He slipped out of the camp and turned towards the smell of Umbraclan. He tripped over a root. That wasn’t there before! He sniffed it, then recoiled in shock. It was the limp tail of Shadowstar. “Jaypaw…” Twigpaw called, then stopped when she saw the body. “Is he….” “Dead? Yes… he is losing a life.” he sensed Twigpaw tense. ''Of course he has more lives! He's a leader too! Starclan gave them to him themselves!” he snapped, anticipating her question. She relaxed, understanding. I love Twigp- no. I can’t! She’s from a different clan! - but nobody will care! She likes me too! I can feel it! - stop Jaypaw! Focus on saving your clanmates first, then you can focus on Twigpaw! Jaypaw started as he felt Shadowstar start breathing. “Twigpaw! I need you to watch him! I’ll be right back!” he called as he raced back to his camp. He ran into the clearing and then shot into the med den, ignoring the surprised yowls of the Thunderclan cats. He grabbed as many herbs as he could carry. Where is Smoketree? The thought struck him like an acorn. I’ll worry about that later, right now, Shadowstar. He raced out of the den and ran into a wall of fur. “Oof” his breath escaped him as he fell to the ground. He hissed and tried to go around the fur. But it was blocking him. “Go away! I need to help my clanmates!” he yowled. “And why is that?” a deep voice answered him. “Because you had to almost kill them!” he hissed. The voice chuckled. “ Well then, better get going, oh wait, you can’t, cause I’m blocking you. Well who cares!? I know that I certainly don-'' he stopped mid sentence as a small bundle of fur smacked into him. “ Run Jaypaw! Help them!” Hollypaw screeched as the big tom hissed and tried to get at the cat clinging to his shoulders. Jaypaw picked up his herbs and shot away, he skidded out of the camp and turned to race towards Shadowstar. When he arrived he dropped to the ground and started chewing up a poultice for Shadowstar’s wounds. “ Twigpaw go help my sister please, one of your clanmates tried to stop me from coming here, then Hollypaw jumped on him and I don’t want her to die.” he mumbled around the herbs. “Ok Jaypaw” she agreed right away. His heart skipped a beat. She really does love me! Think about that later Jaypaw! He scolded himself, better heal Shadowstar first, then look for the rest of Umbraclan. Once he had put herbs on all the injured warriors, he dragged them all into a small, grassy, clearing. Suddenly teeth pulled on his scruff, and he stiffened, trying to stay on the ground, but whoever had him was strong, they tugged him free of the ground and hauled him away. He struggled in the cat's grip, trying to rip himself free, but to no avail. Jaypaw was being catnapped, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
