(Currently a work-in-progress speech) Road To Justice And Freedom by theriot_49 Today, is another day of protesting for our rights. For Black and Asian live to finally matter. But some of you ask, "Why are we here?" "How did we get here?", and "Why are we here". Well, all of our demonstrations first began in 2012 when Trayvin Martin, an innocent black minor, was shot and killed on February 26, 2012. This was yet another example of police brutality against black people and how deeply racism is embedded in our country. Soon after, charges were dropped against the officer. Due to this, a new movement, coming from all of these incidents, was a movement that was calling for justice for all black people. This movement, was Black Lives Matter. This was created to shape America into a less racist country. It had raised up to the headlines in 2014, and had gained worldwide attention on the struggle of black people across the world. After a couple of years of protesting, the BLM movement had went quiet. It was no longer the center of attention. What re sparked the movement, was an event that caused worldwide shock and outrage. It was the killing of George Floyd. He was killed by Former Police Officer Derek Chauvin. Chauvin, along with four others, came to the place at the scene of the crime because Floyd had used a counterfeit 20$ bill. Then, came the moment that caused Floyd's death. Chauvin kneeled on Floyd's neck for over nine minutes. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Because of all of these events, and many other, unspeakable crimes against the black community, have lead us to where we are standing today. We are here, demonstrating for your lives to matter, to reform police, and many other things. One day, I believe that our efforts in Black Lives Matter and Stop Asian Hate will one day be accepted by the government. That will be the day when racism dies out, when Black and Asian people alike and different, will no longer have to cower in fear inside their homes, their cases ignored by the court system, and when their cases finally see the light of justice. When they can finally be free and live the life they think best for the newer generation, for when they will finally be accepted as humans, when they will be treated and have just as many rights and freedoms as all people should. I believe, our efforts will lead to this day. But we must be willing to cooperate, to demonstrate our beliefs through peaceful protests, to unite, and to be able, to garner support through those who initially opposed our beliefs. Once we are able to show these, our efforts will show themselves as justice. -theriot_49
