Cat by day… also cat by night… The crowd silenced as a tall man walked towards the elegant, gold-and-white podium. His long black hair trailed on the ground behind him, and his metal boots made a clank-clank-clank sound with each step that he took. He stepped onto the podium and looked down his slightly crooked nose at the mass of people. When he opened his mouth to speak, all attention was on him. The silence was so thick and so heavy that it could have been a sound of its own. “The stars shine down bright on us tonight”, he began. “At last, after centuries of suffering at the hands of the villains, the portal has opened, as was foretold.” He paused for a second as people turned to each other with surprised exclamations. Excitement buzzed in the air. “We must await the brave hero from another world. It shall not be long now- the portal grows brighter as I stand here. We will soon be able to rest easy!” A cheer went up, breaking the stillness of the night. “All hail the king!” They cried. The king stepped back down and briskly walked back towards the silver palace, his golden robes swishing around his feet. As he stepped inside, four different servants scurried forward and began to fuss over him. He waved them away, distracted, and hurried off to his private quarters. Outside, the crowd was beginning to disperse. It broke away into little groups of people, all going in separate directions. “I wonder what the hero will look like?” Pondered one woman. “I bet he’ll be tall, and handsome, and brave!” Said somebody else. A third added their opinion- “what if they’re a she? I hope we get a female hero!” One more person chimed in. “Whoever it is, I hope they’re willing to save us!” “That,” added somebody else, “is up to the stars.”
