Welcome to Avoid the Lions 8. The first menu allows one to select a character to play as. The second menu allows one to select a treasure to collect. The third menu allows one to select an opponent. The left and right arrow keys are used to move the character. The treasure falls from the top of the screen. It is collected by touching it with the character. Each collected treasure is worth one point. The opponents also fall from the top of the screen. Each time an opponent is touched, one life is lost. Some opponents take away more than one life. Double Trouble, the Triple Entente/Trifecta of Zap, the Blue Bolt, and Destructo the Destroyer respectively take away 2, 3, 5, and 6 lives. Lives can be gained by picking up yellow bonuses that read "+1", "+2", or "+5". Also, 1 life is gained for every 100 points scored. To preserve lives, the force field can be activated by pressing the space bar. No opponent can hit the character, but neither can treasure. No lives will be lost, but no points will be gained. However, if force field points are possessed, points can still be gained when the force field is activated. Force field points are gained by picking up light blue bonuses that read "+1", "+5", or "+10". The Starfish of Supreme Power gives 5 points, 5 lives, and 5 force field points. The blue-glowing Golden Apple sets the lives back to 10 (or adds 5 if 10 or more lives are possessed) and adds 2 Force Field Points. The pink-glowing Golden Apple adds 10 lives and 10 Force Field Points. The Mystery Box is a light green square with a question mark. It can add points, add or subtract lives, or add or subtract Force Field Points. There is no way to know what it will do, and it can be game-ending in some cases. It will be good roughly %60 of the time. Occasionally, something will cross the middle of the screen. Rainbow Lion will take away any opponents that he touches. Evil knight will take away any treasure that he touches. Moonkeyah will occasionally fire his laser, taking out everything in its path. To turn the music on, press the "m" key. To skip a song, press the "s" key. If all of the songs are skipped, the music will turn off and can be started again by pressing the "m" key.
