Simple simulation of the dreaded "two cars" word problem. A Green VW leaves San Francisco heading for Reno at speed ___. A Purple Convertible leaves Reno heading for San Francisco at speed ___. (Speeds can be 0 to 100 km/hr, set using scroll bars.) The two cities are assumed to be ~400 km apart. How far will the VW go before it meets the Convertible? How long will it take before they meet? Use Green Flag to reset. Use space bar to start the trips. Students can try various speed settings and then make tables and graphs of distance versus time or speed, to gain insight into the algebra behind this problem.
