The old wooden door creaked open, and a tall, shadowy figure stepped forwards cautiously. Kenna jumped backwards, pulling out a small dagger from her jean pocket. The figure peered inside, “Hello? Is anyone here?” Said a voice. Kenna reached for the light switch, and the light flickered on, casting a dim orangey light over the room. She looked up, and saw a tanned boy with ashy blond hair and kind brown eyes. He looked at her, and said: “Is it okay if I stay here for the night?” She nodded. “What’s your name?” She asked as she put the dagger back, calming herself. “Max.” He said as he walked in, and locked the door behind him. She eyed him carefully, coming to the conclusion that he was not a threat. “I’m Kenna.” She said, putting her hands in her hoodie and leaning against the old brick wall. Another boy looked over at her from the corner of the room with piercing blue eyes. She flinched, looking back at him. “Wait-there’s more of you?” She looked at both of the boys. “Okay.. I know one of you, but who are you..?” She asked the pale boy. “Leo.” He said in a cold, tired voice. She sighed. “Did the… things get your family too?” Leo shrugged. “Maybe,” he said. “I don’t know if they took mine, but I can’t find any trace of them. Or anyone, for that matter. In fact, you two are the first people I’ve seen in months.” Max nodded worriedly. “Yeah, same.. Well, except for Leo’s girlfriend, Emily.” Leo yawned and pulled out his phone. Kenna was amazed at how relaxed he was, but payed it no mind. She sat back down, wishing she hadn’t lost her phone. She sighed, and took out her knife, carving a picture into a piece of wood she had found a few days ago. Leo scrolled through his messages while max was drawing in a sketch book. “You can use this if you want?” He offered her, holding out his sketch book and a pencil. “I’m good. Thanks though,” she said. “Okay.” She heard the familiar sound of typing and looked over at Leo. “Who are you texting?” “Emily, probably. Right?” Max guessed. Leo nodded, not looking up from his phone. “She’s on her way here right now..” Kenna tensed, not wanting any more people around. Max saw her, and said sympathetically, “Don’t worry. She’s really nice. And quiet. She won’t bother you.” Kenna looked at her trainers uncertainly. About half an hour later, Kenna, Leo and Max heard knocking at the door. Leo ran over to it, but Kenna held him back. “Wait.. how do you know it’s not a monster..?” She said nervously. “Leo?” Came a voice from outside. Kenna let go of him, feeling foolish, and sat down again. Leo opened it, and a girl with long, glossy hair and violet eyes walked in. “Leo!” She hugged him, and then looked around. “Woah. People. Hey, you were Eva’s friend, right? Michael, Mat, or something like that..” “Max!” Max said happily. “Hi Emily!” He stood up. “Have you seen Eva?” He asked hopefully. “No..” Emily sniffed. “I hope she’s okay..” Max walked back to his chair sadly. Leo and Emily sat down. Emily yawned and leaned on Leo. “Who’s Eva?” Kenna asked once Max and Emily had both fallen asleep. “Emily’s little sister. Max’s friend.” Leo sighed. “Oh,” Kenya’s eyes widened and she wiped away a tear. “You-You haven’t happened to have seen a young girl.. who looks a bit like me? Curly hair.. dark eyes.. She’s seven?” Leo shook his head. “No. Sorry.” Kenna looked up at the sky, now covered with beautiful stars. Max snored loudly. Kenna grinned.
