Which Luna is your favorite? :) This character has been haunting me since I made this account, I swear. I liked my latest redesign (second from the right), but my friends and I have plans for a project that I might be able to plug Luna into, or if nothing else, needed to figure out a style for, and the children's book style of that Luna wasn't going to cut it. The one in the center was me kind of playing around, and as for the one on the far right, I'm pretty happy with and the style and I think I'll be using it for our project (and possibly using Luna herself as well, but she's got a pretty developed story, so I might not be able to fit it in there). Eventually Luna is going to get her project. That's just how it will be. :D
I made this project and decided to post it to kind of show how Luna has changed and developed, not necessarily as a character, but as an image and a thing. Each picture shows a very distinct personality, and I think the character's appearance and expressions are a big part of how that character is perceived. I thought it'd be nice to show them all side by side (kind of like is done in this picture with snoopy: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/85/eb/4b/85eb4bc86b068120d4291079b5c4109c.jpg) because the different faces of a character shape how they look and how the designer sees them, and in turn will have an effect on their personality. You can see how she changed just in the dress design (on the far left, the dress is bright yellow; on the right, it's a softer color), and eventually ditched the dress in favor of a more independent look. Her blood color changed, too (you can tell because she blushes yellow on the right instead of pink, demonstrating that her blood is gold, not red). You can also guess at how my plans for Luna changed: on the far left, I felt that motion (aka the feeble walking animation) was more important than expression because she was originally meant to be a small part of a playable game. On the right, her design is based entirely around visuals, with much more detail than any of the previous versions and with various expressions that make her more dynamic. That's because I've decided on more of a story-based project for her, maybe something like a visual novel. You can see that my art style improved every time I redesigned her, as well. I was able to add more detail and make her character more interesting, as well as playing with different styles to see how the tone of the drawing changed (the Children's book Luna does give off a very different mood than the final one!). If you're a beginner at design like me, I'd suggest redesigning your character a couple of times and then putting them in order like this, worst to best, so you can compare, see your progress, and get the best result. :)
