Automatic-Defense Weapon, 5.45 Designed as a concept of a cheap, mass-producable rifle meant to arm the defense forces of developing countries with a modern, effective and reliable service weapon. This weapon is chambered in 5.45x39mm, a common type of ammunition for many newer AK-style weapons, beginning with the AK-74 in 1974. Most of the construction was of wooden furniture for the handguard, stock and sometimes the pistol grip, and most of the metal construction was stamped or riveted. This allowed for savings on production cost, production time and a lesser requirement for those looking to produce their own AD-54 rifles. The weapon's safety was simply a lever that would stop the bolt from moving back all the way when the trigger was pulled. This meant that a more complicated trigger safety was not necessitated, but the weapon can still fire once if a round is chambered even with the selector lever in safety. Overall the AD-54 is an effective, albeit crude weapon, but an excellent firearm nonetheless.
