Shellac is a glaze-like material used in several loved candies, but it is made in an awful way. hundreds of thousands of lac bugs are killed to make a single bit of shellac, which is just plain awful, and so much candy is made from it, and if you buy shellac candy, you support the killing. Candies with shellac include candy corn, Hershey's Whoppers and Milk Duds, Nestlé's Raisinets and Goobers, Tootsie Roll Industries's Junior Mints and Sugar Babies, Jelly Belly's jelly beans and Mint Cremes, Russell Stover's jelly beans, and several candies by Godiva Chocolatier and Gertrude Hawk. As much as people love iconic candy like candy corn, it is not worth it for the lac bugs. Please buy candy without shellac. Spread the word!
