Hello and welcome to my game "Shop 'Til Ya Drop: The Eco-Friendly Edition." I hope you enjoy my game and learn something new that can help better our home. 1) First, click on the GREEN FLAG. 2) Click the arrow to continue to the next backdrop. 3) Throughout the game, remember to read what the Sprites have to say. You might learn something new! 4) Next, after reading Carl and Melody's conversation click on Melody (the Sprite on the left.) Answer her question with either YES or NO. 5) Now, choose the bag that you would like to shop with. Choose wisely, A.K.A. the eco-friendly way! ;) (If you choose the REUSABLE BAG the START button will appear. Click on the START button to BEGIN.) 6) Using the left and right arrows catch all of the falling produce to earn points. If you miss one of them, it's GAME OVER. Try to avoid catching plastic bags. If you avoid the bag from falling, it will not appear again. 7) Earn a score of 25 to win! :D
Of all the animals on planet Earth, humans have proven to be the most destructive. We take more than we need, and by doing this, we waste. We have only ONE planet: Earth. Come on, this isn’t "Interstellar" where we can just go find another planet. It’s not that easy! The average American produces 1,600 pounds of trash a year of which 10% is plastic. It is estimated that the United Sates uses 100 billion plastic bags a year. 50% of the plastic the United States use is used only once, then thrown away. 90% of all plastic is not recycled. It takes 500 to 1,000 years for plastic to degrade. Have you ever heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch? This mass of trash is TWICE the size of Texas; with pieces of broken down plastic that outnumber sea life six to one. Not only does plastic harm the environment, but the ecosystems that depend on it as well. 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals die due from plastic in our oceans. 93% of Americans ages 6 and up test positive for B.P.A. (bisphenol A), a chemical found in plastic. B.P.A. is known to be able to imitate our body’s own hormones. The chemical causes health issues such as reproductive disorders for men and women, heart disease, and even type two diabetes. As Earth becomes polluted with plastic, one might stop and think, “What can I do to reduce my plastic footprint?” My game will promote one of the many solutions: use a reusable bag when grocery shopping. It is simple, but effective. Another way to reduce your plastic footprint is to use a reusable water bottle. Doing this will reduce your plastic footprint and decrease these heartbreaking statistics. By using reusable bags, you can reduce the average amount of waste produced by 600 pounds. I hope that my game will help spread the message of Mālama Honua. 1) All music, Sprites and backdrops were created by Kau‘ilani Nakagawa©
