Background Information Humans are harming the earth by using too many plastic bottles and cans. Producing aluminum cans is harmful to humans. Studies have shown aluminum factory workers that are exposed to large amounts of aluminum dust have lung problems. Making new aluminum cans uses valuable energy. When humans recycle aluminum cans 95% of the energy used to make new cans is saved. When people do not recycle plastic and plastic bottles the plastic ends up in the ocean. Every square mile there is about 46,000 pieces of trash in the ocean. Plastic bottles are not good for the environment. When plastic bottles are in the landfill the plastic releases toxic chemicals into the soil. These toxic chemicals seep into waterways and then the fish , humans, and land animals may become sick or die from the chemicals. A individual person can use cloth reusable bags instead of plastic bags and use a hydro flask instead of buying water in plastic bottles. If we recycle 1 ton of plastic we save 7.4 cubic yards in the landfill. In conclusion if humans recycle we can help prevent pollution, less animal deaths, and save energy.
