By 892 The Fredriksberg & Northern Railroad's Express trains were getting too heavy for their 4-6-0's and 4-4-2 and the company needed a more powerful locomotive the solution: a combine the traction of the 4-6-0 with stability and large firebox of the 4-4-2s and thus the F&N class 23 was born (reclassified as F23s by the north coast).
