CHAPTER 1 “Vitrium!” Spooky yelped. “Ahahahahahahahahaha!” Vitrium cried. “Please no, it’s our first day at Keeper Academy! I need to get LifeKeeper or one of those positive keepers, I don’t care whether you get DeathKeeper or not!” Spooky screamed. “You can stop crying before I really get DeathKeeper or those bad keepers,” Vitrium taunted. “Maybe not, because you stepped on me,” Spooky groaned. Friends or not, Spooky and Vitrium were twins. The former was a second younger than the latter. “Hey everyone!” the speaker above the twins boomed. “The classifaculation is now midway through! Please come to the main room before you miss your classifaculation!” Spooky wailed. It was his last moments with a normal, beautiful life. He missed his true old life, his beautiful life with his parents. Now his parents were dead just for the sake of him and his sister. The parents of anybody who attended Keeper Academy had to be killed so the secret of the Academy could be kept. Taking a final, sad breath, Spooky, accompanied by Vitrium, walked to the main room. “I wonder how Kaymell’s doing…” Vitrium whispered wistfully, thinking of her best friend back home. “Spooky!” came a sudden cry from the stage. “If you are there, please come for your classifaculation!” “Say goodbye to your normal life,” Vitrium said after a few seconds. “Go now.” Wobbling, Spooky walked onto the stage. “Spooky al est Jake,” Spooky heard. “Qui may le vi.” “What am I?” Spooky asked nervously. “You are a LifeKeeper,” was the response. The whole room turned green, Spooky’s favorite color. One table cheered and the others moaned. Below, Vitrium clapped. Even Spooky, a usually shy child, felt like cheering. “You are to teleport there to show that you are truly a LifeKeeper,” came another voice. “If you were admitted to this academy, you have the power to do this without being taught.” “WHAT?” Spooky wanted to scream, but held it back, trying to teleport. To his surprise, he flew right over to that table. Everybody gasped in surprise. You have a rare ability, a voice said in his head. This is the Keeper of the Academy speaking to you. You have a rare ability. “Vitrium! It’s your turn!” the Keeper of the Academy boomed. “Though I already know what you are from your previous actions…” HateKeeper. Your sister is a HateKeeper. Spooky was horrified and surprised at the same time. Did the Keeper have a special affection for him? And how did his sister become a HateKeeper? He heard a bit of gibberish again, and then… “HateKeeper.” Spooky and Vitrium screamed at the exact same time. They looked at each other, surprised. Vitrium had a bit of a sad and wistful look in her eyes, while Spooky had a surprised and horrified look. They quickly mouthed “Bye” and turned away. “Oi!” somebody greeted, touching Spooky’s shoulder. He jumped out of his skin and looked at the person who had saluted him. “Oi?” Spooky inquired curiously. “Qual o seu nome?” the stranger asked, and Spooky guessed he was being asked his name, as the language sounded familiar. “Spooky,” he replied. “É um nome interessante!” his new “friend” exclaimed. Spooky suddenly realized the dialect. It was Portuguese, his home language. It reminded him of his old house in Portugal before he had moved to England. “Yes, I know…” he replied in Portuguese. “Do you want to be friends?” “Sure, why not?” “Hey, Acradia! Another Portuguese child!” Spooky’s first Academy friend exclaimed. “By the way, my name’s Migues… another weird name, huh? And-” “We all have weird names,” Spooky joked, feeling included all of a sudden. The group of three talked until the classifaculation was over. They were all happy until Acradia asked, “Is Vitrium your sister? I noticed you screaming with her at the exact same time…” “Can we talk about this when we get to our dorms?” said Spooky quickly, trying to change the subject. “Why?” Migues asked slyly. “I just don’t want to talk about it in front of other LifeKeepers,” Spooky replied shyly. “No worries, only us three, long live Portugal! Oh yes, only us three made it to the LifeKeeper group,” Acradia said comfortingly yet worriedly. “Pretty suspicious, huh?” “Yes,” Migues muttered. “Very podejrzany…” “Hey, don’t speak in Polish now!” Acradia whispered, and the three burst out laughing, but stopped, as Acradia’s face turned serious. “Polish is banned in this Academy, I don’t know why…” “Oops…” Migues wailed. He looked behind him to make sure he wasn’t being pursued. He sighed in relief when he saw that there was nobody near him and his group. But suddenly, an academy official burst out from behind.
