Hey you! Better start unplugging those chargers to Mālama Honua. This project is based on Mālama Honua. Mālama Honua is a worldwide voyage that is being done by a double-hauled canoe named the Hōkūle‘a. Mālama Honua is about taking care of the earth and its resources. For our project the resource that we will be teaching you about is electricity and how to save it. The U.S. Department of Energy have done studies of the energy humans use up and have found that 20% of all the electricity used in an average American house is standby power. Standby power is unused, wasted power. For example, if you are done charging a phone and unplug only your phone, the unused plug is standby power. If you didn't know, electricity runs on fossil fuels. 84% of the energy used in America, is all from fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are made from oil, coal, and natural gas. These are all components of the Honua, or Earth. Unplugging those unused chargers will save 5% of natural forest on the Earth. The reason why you save forest is because people have to dig holes in the Earth. Sometimes they have to get rid of forest. In conclusion, unplug those chargers so that you can save 5% of the natural forest in the future. pics: Kaimalu and Preston sprites: Jordan and Preston Music: Kaimalu
