[All Intensity Estimates are UNOFFICIAL and may not match the official NHC Intensity Estimates] The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season was the third-most active season on record in terms of named storms. This season unfortunately became the fourth-costliest on record with a price tag of $70 Billion USD. Eight tropical cyclones impacted the United States this year, and other cyclones also impacted various regions of the Caribbean and Mexico. Hurricane Elsa had a long-tracking path through the Caribbean and to Florida as a Category 1 storm. Hurricane Grace became the most powerful hurricane to ever strike Veracruz, and is also tied with Karl as the strongest on record in the Bay of Campeche. Hurricane Henri became the first storm in 30 years to strike Rhode Island directly. Hurricane Ida became one of the worst American hurricanes in modern records, causing $65 Billion USD in damages across Louisiana to the entire Northeast. It is the costliest in the Northeast since Hurricane Sandy, and is also the strongest to ever impact Louisiana in terms of sustained winds, and the second-most intense to strike the state in terms of pressure, behind only Hurricane Katrina. A truly devastating system. Hurricane Larry was a long-tracking open Atlantic major which ultimately made landfall in Newfoundland, one of the rare tropical hurricanes to do so. Hurricane Nicholas struck Texas as a Category 1 and stalled over Louisiana, hampering relief efforts after Hurricane Ida. Hurricane Sam became the strongest storm of the year, and accumulated the 7th Highest ACE on record for the basin, measuring at 53.8 using official estimates. Tropical Storm Wanda caused heavy damage in the northeast as a powerful nor'easter. A season that had multiple notable impacts, and proved to become the most active season to ever harbor the usually inactive first naming list.
