Chapter Two The Apple “Who is it?!” Silver called. “I have very weird and possibly deadly… stuff…. Hey, what do I have? It’s like magic….” she asked herself. “It is magic. You’re a Magic.” a voice said. “I’m a what now?” Silver asked. The light in the cracks grew brighter and the Mooncrosser faded into view. She had brown fur and a black cloak, and you couldn’t miss the piercing blue eyes. She looked like she was thirteen years old, just like Silver. “Hi there Silver, I’m Holly, and I’m here to offer you a deal.” “Ummm… sure? Waaaait. How do you know my name?!” Silver said. “I just do. You don’t need to know why, Silver.” Holly rolled her eyes. “The deal is you’ll help me defeat the attacker, and I’ll teach you how to use magic.” “I thought Magics were illegal! Why would you want to kill the attacker if you’re illegal? And why would I want to use magic?” “Because. I want to. So we can be legal again. Also, magic is helpful, and I believe you’ll find it fascinating.” Silver thought for a moment. “Deal,” she said. “Well then,” Holly said, and her hands glowed with purple light, and she lifted off the ground. The light wrapped around Silver. She lifted off the ground too, a magic purple leash tied around her body. “Flight spell. You’ll learn it eventually. But, if I make others float, they just float around. That’s why I made the magic leash. You’ll learn that one too.” Holly exploded the roof with purple magic, and the rocks rained down on them. Then, Holly flew forward. “Ow!” Silver shouted as the leash yanked her. “Ooh! Sorry, Silver!” Holly shouted over the roaring wind as they sped West. “I’ll go slower until we reach the Wildlands!” They slowed down. Silver and Holly were high above a little apple orchard. “Or, we could land here and eat, I’m starving….” she said. “Isn’t that stealing?” Silver asked. “It’s not stealing, it’s borrowing!” Holly rolled her eyes. “You have so much to learn.” Holly and Silver dropped down to the ground and the leash disappeared. Holly climbed up a tree. “It’s food! You can’t borrow food without regurgitating it!” Silver shouted. “Sure you can,” Holly said, and she picked an apple. Another apple grew in its place, but it glimmered with purple light. When it finished growing (about two seconds from when it started) it stopped shining with purple light. “You take an apple, and you return one.” Holly took a bite. “Fascinating,” Silver whispered. She pushed her glasses back up on her face. “We can learn your first spell here if you want,” Holly said, tail swishing. Without waiting for an answer, she hopped down. Suddenly, the half-eaten apple she was holding turned into a frog and hopped off. “What spell is that?” Silver asked. “Small animal transformation. Turn a small object into a tiny animal or insect.” Holly said boredly. “It’s a basic spell. First, clear your mind.” Silver did as she was told. “Then, look at the object you want to turn into an animal.” Silver looked at a rock. “Then think of the animal you want to turn it into.” Bird, Silver thought. The rock grew legs and a bird face. Holly looked at the thing (it was currently hopping around, looking for worms), then at Silver. “Sorry,” Silver said. Holly snapped her fingers, and the thing turned into a full bird and flew off tweeting happily. She rolled her eyes. “It’s... a start,” Holly sighed.
