remixing projects (with no credit or changes), and why it's bad. first, let's take a little trip to the community guidelines. "Remixing is a great way to collaborate and connect with other Scratchers. You are encouraged to use anything you find on Scratch in your own creations, as long as you provide credit to everyone whose work you used and make a meaningful change to it. And when you share something on Scratch, you are giving permission to all Scratchers to use your work in their creations, too." - - - "as long as you provide credit to everyone whose work you used and make a meaningful change" - - - using just the community guidelines, we see that remixing projects without *both* credit and change is against the community guidelines. so why do it? yes, remix culture is appreciated and even encouraged in scratch, it's a great way to get ideas and inspiration. ideas. inspiration. not copying, stealing, remaking, recoloring, or minor changes to claim it as your own. that's not following any moral guidelines, let alone scratch-specific guidelines. so i ask again, why? - - - section 2: using other people's projects for false attention. the aesthetic community and perhaps some other parts of scratch are very heavily based on pretty thumbnails and helpful projects! if you see a project with a good thumbnail, you might be inclined to click on it just for the aesthetic, hoping the project might be as good as the thumbnail. remixing other people's projects to claim the thumbnails and contents as your own makes more people want to click on the projects that aren't yours, meaning you gain attention for things you. didn't. do. - - - section 3: using other people's thumbnails for follows. i know that most people in the aesthetic community get follows just for their pretty thumbnails. ofc, some get follows from just generally being cool and thats perfectly ok! i know for me, i've met someone with great thumbnails but their personality wasn't all that. so, say if someone comes across your profile, after you remix people's projects. they see the beautiful thumbnails of the projects! they give u a follow, bc clearly you must be talented. because from your profile, they can't see that the thumbnails and projects are remixed. they think you work hard. you don't. remixing a project takes, literally, two clicks. - - - section 4: summary + last points if you're going to remix, make /!\ MAJOR /!\ changes in the project. remixing a project and adding one empty slide in a costume doesn't cut it. not even close. please make your own thumbnail/delete it too, using people's thumbnails for clout isn't right. try to make your own thumbnail, it can't be that bad, right? good to practice anyway :)
