i made it past quarter finals!!! ahhhh hi!! welcome to my entry for scratch's got talent v QUARTER FINALS! ISN'T THAT CRAZY! this is the second entry i've made for this competition, the first was for the auditions round, i got a golden buzzer (also crazy!!) on that project and was excused from the round after that! i'm super excited to be back sharing my entry for this round! also AGAIN i procrastinated until like LITERALLY the last minute! i'm sharing this at around 10:00 (my time zone) on november 30th. i do this every time!!! so a bit on the backstory - for all of november i was planning on doing a cover of the song 'northern italy' (great song btw, highly recommend) and then, i kid you not, YESTERDAY i was like "oh actually it would be fun if i did an original song!" and luckily enough i have like 20 million songs (finished and unfinished) that i could sing, but i still had to decide which one and create the backtrack, the singing, AND the harmony all today after school!!! AKAJFIPAOWIJ! and if that wasn't enough, i also had an la project due today at 9 pm and i turned it in at 8:59 lol back to the recording process, i recorded all of northern italy before changing my mind last night and forcing myself to record all of the parts of the new song today. i was surprised how difficult it is to get a good recording. 90% of the time i mess up, and 5% of the time i actually get a good recording, something happens in the background. MULTIPLE recordings were ruined by the front door opening, other music playing, someone in my family talking, my dad walking into the kitchen and eating chips really loudly, or my dog barking. i was lucky enough to get a pretty good recording for the piano after many tries, then i had to do a few recordings for the main singing part, then a few for the harmonies, so it was a long process!! also id like to point out the fact that before today i have never played this song on the piano, so when i got home from school i just played the ukulele chords on the piano and added a little *pizzazz* and then called it a day xD! i wanted to change some of the lyrics, but this was so last minute, i didn't have the time or the desire to do so. this brings me to another thing i wanted to mention. this song is not finished, it is simply a song i wrote back last june (actually i was planning on using for the first sgt round and then it was not finished in time) that i kind of like the tune of and so i decided to use it. someday, i hope to change some of the lyrics that i don't like and and maybe add another verse to it, but i would say i'm pretty proud of it for how short it is and for how quickly i pulled it together. ok for the next part of this already really long description, here are the lyrics and chords to the song, and underneath ill explain a bit about how i wrote them and the meaning behind them *continued in notes and credits*
lyrics & chords: (c) (f) (c) (f) (c) at the park late (f) june (c) sat the swings me and (f) you (am) flying through the (c) air (c) as we let down our (f) hair oh we (am) never thought that (f) this would change so (c) soon (c) we both jumped off at the (f) top (c) we did it once then didn't (f) stop (am) yeah we let our hands fall (c) free (c) cause that's how it used to (f) be oh we (am) never thought that this would change so soon oh we (f) never thought that this would CHANGE so-o-o (c) soon so (c) so-o-o-o-(f)-on so (c) soon (b) (bflat) (f) (f) why couldn't you (c) stay a while (g) (dsus4) (f) why did you (c) have to move on (g) move on (g) (am) now you've left me all (c) alone (am) as if it wasn't just (c) hello (f) oh we (am) should have known that (f) things were changing (c) (am) (f) (c) (am) (f) (fm) (c) (c) (c) now in the halls you look (f) away (c) probly because we didn't (f) stay (am) and oh i never thought it'd (c) be (c) what once was us now's only (f) me oh why (am) did it have to end and change so soon oh why (f) did it have to end and change so soon (n/c) (c) so basically this song is about somebody who had a really good childhood friend and is saying that they had no way of knowing that their friendship would be changing soon. the beginning of the song talks about all the good times that the they had together, then transitions into asking why couldn't they have stayed friends for longer, now they are alone, and that they should have noticed that things were changing. finally, it ends saying how now they barely ever say hi to each other anymore, like when you see someone in the hallway at school, and wishing that the friendship didn't have to end that soon. this isn't necessarily a true story, but there are some parts that are based off of my own life/experiences. the story isn't completely real, but the emotions are. ok this is random but i'm super proud of the harmony :DD also i would like to address the fact that the audio is a bit glitchy at some times, for some reason the first verse and the rest of the song don't really sound the same for the singing part and there is also a weird part between the piano by the oooo part where it gets different but idk how to fix that in addition to all the times i touched my microphone and it made a weird noise. ok on to reverb (omg this description can not get any longer) at the suggestion of a comment on my other singing project, i have added a bit of reverb to the main singing part, in addition to the harmonies, ooos, and a bit on the piano part as well, although i will include a version without reverb on the main singing part in the inside of this project in case you would like to hear it without reverb. i could talk about some other things, but i'm sure i've bored everybody reading this already at this point, so ill spare you the nitty gritty details haha finally - credits! song lyrics - me piano - me singing - me harmony - me ooos - me song made in soundtrap (by me), thumbnail made in canva (by me) although just for funsies the picture in the thumbnail was taken by none other than... me... last august while i was at the park (if you cant tell its the bottom of a slide lol) and i thought it fit the song, talking about playgrounds and all that jazz please let me know what you think of the song, i'm pretty proud of it, and also let me know if you have ideas for songs that i should cover or if you'd like to hear another original song from me! lastly, i wish everybody competing in the quarter finals the best of luck! thanks so much for reading ALL of that unnecessary information, and have a good december!!!
