See Inside, and open the costume editor for the sprite with no gradient. You should be able to see it without any issue. Now, try opening the costume editor for the sprite with a gradient. There's a good chance that your costume editor will crash, but I still do not know if this is exclusive to the OS and browser I'm using.
This is a project demonstrating a bug I experienced and talked about in the Scratch Forums. Originally I thought that the reason why the editor was crashing was because the gradient had more than 2 nodes, but the 2-node gradient also crashes, so I don't think it's caused by complex gradients.
