A lot of people know about wild horse Annie and the Mustangs but not many people know about the recently extinct Abaco Barbs. When Spanish ships crashed off the coast of Abaco the horses swam to shore. They existed peacefully with the people of Abaco until one day an unattended child climbed onto one of them and was killed. The villagers slaughtered almost all the horses. Eventually the 3 that were left bred and numbers reached 35. By the 1990's that had dropped to half due to fatal wounds from dogs and people, lack of medical attention, and pesticide poisoning. There is now a preserve for the Abaco Barbs that are now extinct. In 2011 only 5 remained. Hurricane Dorian wiped out all hopes. On the bottom left is a photo of last remaining Abaco Barb bay mare Nunki with unsurviving foal. one lady was trying to save them. Her name is Milanne Rohr. Please remember the Abaco Barbs
just read instructions oh and if we got some of the purest Spanish barbs available and put them on Abaco island maybe-just maybe we could bring back the Abaco barbs. There is a wall between us and the Abaco barbs. But WE are the dynamite. We just need someone to light the spark.-me
