"Let's make a promise!" A young boy, one with vibrant green eyes, and blond hair that shone in the light. "A promise?" A girl, equally as young, with chocolate brown hair tied into two pigtails, and large hazel eyes. "Yes, a promise!" "What kind of promise?" "That we'll be best friends forever!" The boy handed the girl a ring, one that was thin with a heart positioned on the front. "What's this?" "It's a promise ring! I have one too!" He showed her a thicker ring, with the same heart, but smaller and carved into the silver metal, on his finger. "If we keep these on, then he promise will be kept! My mom told me!" The girl smiled and put the ring on her finger. "Okay! Let's be friends forever!" . . .12 years later. . . "Jade, we're here." The girl, Jade, pulled her earphones out and turned towards the window, her face reflecting back at herself. Chocolate brown hair pulled into a low ponytail, hazel eyes, freckles dotting her face. She hadn't changed much since she moved, only slightly tanning, and receiving a couple freckles on her still light skin. She wondered how much he had changed. "Mom, remind me why we're coming back here." "Jade! Don't you want to come back here? For almost the whole time we were in California, you were whining about coming home, where you grew up!" "Lies." "Darling, don't you want to meet your old friends again? It's been years, I'm sure you want to see Bethany, Kendall, Tyler, and all of your other friends again, don't you?" "I don't know." Jade's mother, who was sitting in the driver's seat, the seat next to hers, turned to her daughter and smiled. She recognized the sparkle in her eyes, her eyes reflected in the glass of the car's clear window. She did want to see them again, she just didn't want to admit it. Her mother stopped the car in the driveway of a large, white colonial. "So, this is our new house?" "Yes, it is. It's a nice place." "But for just the two of us?" "Nope. Your cousin is staying with us as well, at least until the custody battle between her parents is over." "Wait, are you talking about Cynthia?" "Yes. Don't worry, she'll probably spend most of the time on the laptop she owns, she won't bother you." "Good. Anyway, I'm going to go look around and see if the old park is still here." "Oh, I remember that place! Also, school starts in two days, and I'm not going to let you miss it." "Okay, bye!" Jade put her earphones back in and turned her music on, singing along. "You're alone, you're on your own, so what? Have you gone blind?. . ." (Anybody know this song? It's one I really love) She continued to sing, until a familiar sign came into view. It had been years, but Jade still recognized it. She smiled and walked a bit faster. The sign read 'May Chester Park', and it was placed in front of a field, and a little playground. It was still there, alright. Even if it seemed almost nobody still came there. Still smiling, Jade walked up to the playground, memories flashing through her head. She sat on one of the swings, the same one she would always swing on, and sat there, calmly and quietly singing along to the songs on her iPhone. "Cause my echo, echo, is the only voice coming back. Shadow, shadow, is the only friend that I have-" "You have a really pretty voice," A different, deeper voice, said from behind Jade. Even with the headphones she could hear him, and she turned, surprised, to come face to face with blue-green eyes. "Who are you?" she asked the teen in front of her. He looked about her age, with light brown, almost blond, hair and blue-green eyes. he had glasses, and looked generally well-built. Jade felt she should know him, like he was familiar, but she couldn't put a name to the teen. "You'll find out in two days," was all he replied with before flashing a grin, turning around, and walking away. Jade rolled her eyes. "Weirdo," she muttered under her breath, and going back to listening to her music. She didn't hear what the teen said next however, because he was too far away. "Ah, Jade, it's been so long, and you have no idea how much I've thought about you."
Music: You - Hollywood Ending (I'm sorry, it's such a good song, I had too put it in, even if the story doesn't quite match it) The picture is the rings mentioned in the story. XD I made it too long, so I had to cut stuff and change it so there were two parts. Sorry! Also, if there are any mistakes, that's my fault. I didn't want to have to read the thing to edit it. XD
