Space/Click/Arrow Keys to go to next slide Helloooo everyone! I hope you all have had a good December and are excited for 2022. I've decided that I'm going to be ending my monthly drawing series this year (if you want to know why you can scroll down) so this is my very last of monthly drawing and I'm glad that I'm happy with it. Self Critique: I'm quite happy with the faces. In all of my monthly drawings this year they've been hard for me because I've been trying to capture the unique features of each face while also stylizing it. I think the reason these turned out so well is because I didn't overwork them as much. I also had a lot of fun with the patterns on the clothes since those were really detailed. However I do really wish the proportions were better. Something really feels off to me about the length of the female dancer's arms and legs but I can't place exactly what it is.... ...also can we talk about how heteronormative a lot of things in ballet are? Gosh nothing against straight couples but ballet is sure full of them! (not like other media isn't as well lol) Why this is my last one: Okay so doing these monthly drawings has really helped me grow as an artist. The one's of my 'Kittens and Puppies' calendar helped me learn a whole lot about form, texture, contrast, and looking at the reference in a way that I could break it down onto the paper. This year's calendar of ballet dancers helped me learn more about the human body and posing especially so I am super happy that I did this challenge thingy. I decided to stop doing my monthly drawings because I want to take a step back away from realism and work more from my head! This isn't a sad thing for me at all and I'm really happy I did monthly drawings I just think I need to move on to a different type of work :D The one other reason is the obvious one. Schoolwork and other things have been keeping me so busy now that I do more things in person. Having the monthly deadline can be a bit stressful sometimes (although it was helpful in giving me motivation so it was definitely healthy in some ways). I hope all of you who read this far aren't too upset that I'm stopping. I mainly just want to take what I've learned doing realism into other forms of art :) Please enjoy this last monthly drawing and thanks to all of you who have come on this journey of a sorts with me! Also if anyone wants to do any kind of similar challenges please send me the links I'd love to see them. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk lol
I really appreciate constructive criticism! If you have any suggestions please tell me. Here's the studio: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/26211508/ My calendar is "Ballet" (2021 16-Month Calendar) by Bright Day Calendars.
