- - - - Hello everybody! I’m here today with my first DTAE on this account :0 I absolutely loved Primary’s design so I decided to enter! I made a lot of art for them, so I’m hoping I at least place, if not win. Yes their name will stay the same for lack of anything better, plus I do like the name anyhow. (Their pronouns are they/them btw) Also, as per many people’s requests, there is a process of one of my art pieces included here! I hope you like this, and have a good day/night! - - - - Process 1. Original - art by @foxfood 2. I set up my canvas, with my references (I made the background grey so it’s better on the eyes + you can see it better) 3. Circles! (I use dip pen for sketching) 4. Lowered opacity of the circles and started sketching the head on a different layer (also added a headshot I had already done of the character before to see what I had changed about it) 5. Finished the sketching! The paws were really hard to get right :,0 6. Removed the references I didn’t need anymore and resized + moved the sketch 7. Lineart! I use the watercolor brush for it 8. Base color - I use the watercolor brush for coloring too. I just color in the whole picture and go around and painstakingly erase the extra color :,] 9. Small bits colored, the parts that go above the fur (clipped to the base color layer) 10. Coloring finished! Here I did the spots. I use two layers (both clipped to the base color) to get the best result! (One for the bottom color and one for the top color, aka the darker shade of brown.) 11. Removed reference and merged all layers (except background) together. I also duplicated the lineart layer and added color burn to one of them (before merging.) 12. Shading! I use the same watercolor brush for shading and lighting as well. I use two layers for shading, one for the more blurred shading and one for the less blurred shading to create a harder shade. (All clipped to the original art) 13. Lighting! For lighting do the same thing as I do for shading except with a lighter orangey-yellow. Remember to keep your shading and lighting vibrant in a brightly colored picture, or else it’ll look dull. (Aka no greys!) 14. Finished product! I added my watermark and a very subtle chromatic aberration • Time taken: 1 hour 58 minutes - - - - Extra art 1. (Slightly) experimental fullbody. I experimented with different lighting and shading! Feedback is appreciated!! <3 • Time taken: 3 hours 22 minutes 2. Icon. This was actually the very first piece I made, when I tested out drawing with different brushes. • Time taken: 1 hour 31 minutes 3. Ref sheet! This is the most recent piece of art (besides the thumbnail) yes they do have four legs I just couldn’t figure out how to draw that last one • Time taken: 2 hours 4 minutes 4. Scratch doodles of them and Gizmo!! • Time taken: like 5 minutes lol - - - -
