I’m calling this artwork The Arena :) So, WELCOME TO MY LIGHTING PROCESS! In this I’ll be explaining my process on how I add lighting to my artwork (AND this is the first time I used my Apple Pencil). Enjoy! ——— 1. This is what it looks like when it started. I had already done the base colors :) (it actually took wayy longer than it should’ve XD) 2. I decided to do an orange color, and made a layer with it set on color dodge. 3. I did a rough outline of where I wanted the light to be. This was with a round brush. 4. Showing why I put things there. 5. I made the color slightly more yellow and added onto it. 6. Cleaning it up a bit :) 7. This is what it looks like when you set the blending mode to normal XD. 8. More cleaning up. 9. I used the acrylic paint brush to blend it better. 10. Picking a shading color. 11. Making a layer. 12. Basically the same thing I did with the light, but on a color burn layer 13. OVERLAY! Overlay is great to add some emotion to your drawings. I did a dark lavender color for this to give more of a deadly vibe. 14-16. Some more light from the light source. 17. I uploaded paint texture on an overlay layer. This makes the drawing look less plastic-y in my opinion. 18. I made a layer with multiply to add more shadows to the shadowy side. 19. Did some work on the skin and hair. The cheeks, ears, fingers, kneecaps, feet, and shoulders all have some blush (I didn’t do some of them tho cause cLothes) 20. I did an add effect using a splatter brush to give particle effects. :D just for fun. 21. A layer with white for reflections. 22. Did some stuff on the eyes. This is the finished product! I hope this helps you in some way! If you have any questions, feel free to ask :). Tags: #art #tutorials #all #trending #music
Art by me. (I can’t draw hands-) Song is Time Lapse by TheFatRat Small explanation of blending modes used in this (not official definition, just what I’ve noticed) Normal: This is what every layer starts on. It’s just the normal color, no effects. Multiply: This mode darkens different hues based on what color you use on it and the colors beneath it. White will be clear on this mode. Color burn: This mode darkens and makes the colors underneath it more contrasting, often resulting in it popping out more. Color dodge: My favorite mode! This brightens the colors while adding more contrast between them, making cool lighting effects. Add: Basically the opposite of multiply Overlay: Pretty much combination of screen and multiply. Another thing I didn’t mention but probably should is having a main focus on a piece. The main focus in this piece is how frightened and fierce the character is. Using the color blue in this piece draws focus to the wide eyes, bent legs, and the sword she’s holding, contrasting against the dark red colors everywhere else. Old ocs are cringe sometimes. Especially this ones name- (her Neverseen name is cringe, not her actual one. Her real name is Avaline London Scott-) New ear style? (Kinda inspired by @Countinqsheep)
