>>> Yes, I know it’s after Christmas, but we should always be celebrating the incarnation and birth of Christ. >>> In Matthew 2, it discusses three different reactions to Christ’s birth, and this is a question you need to be honest about, which one are you? Let’s jump in! (: >>> Matthew 2:1-2 — “1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem, 2 saying, ‘Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising and have come to worship him.’” >>> These two verses sum up the wise men’s response: coming from far to worship him. These three men, who had the status of a king were coming to worship a baby. They traveled for three years! >>> Matthew 2:3 — “3 When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.” >>> Unlike the joyful wisemen coming to worship the newborn king, Herod was scared. He was greedy and he didn’t want another king to ride. He was scared of losing us power and wanted to be the ONLY king. >>> Matthew 2:4-6 — “4 So he [King Herod] assembled all of the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Christ would be born. ‘In Bethlehem in Judea,’ they replied, ‘for this is what the prophet has written: 6 ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” >>> These religious rulers (Chief Priests and Scribes) knew the prophecy like the wise men but they were indifferent to Christ’s birth. >>> Are you joyous and happy, scared of a new king, or indifferent?
