>>> hey guys and gals! Joy here! I hope you're having an absolutely amazing day. Today we are talking about taking the bible literally all the time, and its problems. Let's jump right in! >>> We should start off with some examples. <> Matthew 26:61 - Jesus says he will rebuild the TEMPLE in three days. No one believed him because they did not realize that he was not talking about the literal, physical temple. He was talking about his body. <> Amos 9:11- 12 - states that God will restore David's temple. And raise up its ruins, and call the remaining believers of Edom for his own. This was not talking about an actual temple. This is talking about Jesus, and how he will be raised up, and call the believers of Edom to himself. >>> Both of these examples can be taken two different ways. one very literal, another metaphorical. The problem with taking something too metaphorical is you begin to look for the wrong things. If you believe Jesus is still waiting to rebuild the temple, friend, I think you are taking the passages above too literally. >>> The Bible uses so many metaphors, similes, hyperboles, and parables. We have to be so careful not to take them too literally or we will misinterpret the passage. Sometimes the Bible is very literal however, and should be taken very seriously.
