Prologue- Nico Nico di Angelo was happy. He was happy, and he was fighting an angry wind spirit. He wasn't happy because he was fighting the venti. He was happy because he was holding Will Solace's hand. Sure, he could die at any minute. But that didn't matter. Nico let the truth sink in once again, it was just unbelievable. Will Solace, the son of Apollo and the most amazing person ever, was holding his hand. And it was because he liked him. Nico just couldn't believe that anyone would ever like him- HIM, a son of Hades. Nico's heart fluttered every time Will came near him, and of course, he couldn't stop it, not like he had squelched his feelings for Percy all those years. Percy Jackson. The idea of Nico liking him seemed distant. That had been a dream that was miles away, tiny compared to the fantasy he was living now. Of course, he could die at any moment, but that didn't matter. His boyfriend mattered. The day that Will had first kissed him- just a peck on the cheek, but it counted- was the day his life changed. Before, his mind had chanted, 'Hades. Percy. Hazel. Bianca.' Now, those other names were still in his head, but a single name drowned them out. WILL. It was so often in his mind that he almost didn't hear Austin, Will's brother, yelling for Will. "Will. Hey, Will. WILL!" Nico nudged Will. "Guess we'll have to get back to the wind guys later, huh?" Will nodded. "Coming, Austin!" He yelled, already running from the spirit. When Will and Nico reached Austin, he breathed a sigh of relief. "Rachel says she feels a prophecy coming on, and you two-" He nodded to Will and Nico, who were still holding hands- Nico blushed- "Are our best interpreters." He kept talking as they jogged towards the Apollo cabin. "Kayla's with her now, she's got a pad of paper." They reached the cabin and stepped inside. Rachel was sitting on Kayla's bed, looking totally fine- except for her eyes, which were wild. Her hair was a frizzy mess as usual, and she was breathing quickly. "Prophecy time," Austin muttered. Kayla, who was the fastest writer in the Apollo cabin, was ready pen poised over paper. Rachel opened her mouth, and a prophecy was born. "When winds are wild and trees are pale, When hope and faith and all luck fails, When homes are stripped of wood and nail, When heard is the Cry of Tyche. When water leaves, puddles turn to mud, When the nymphs are covered in dragon blood, When all hopes rest on a single son, Who lives by the Cry of Tyche. Wisdom's end, love's break Birds of mind and peace will part their ways One shall be lost in the break of day, Because of the Cry of Tyche. One who controls luck's slippery sands, One who holds knowledge in her hands, One who brings them back to land, Find each other in the Cry of Tyche. Chance is always a dangerous game, But it's all that can stop the everlasting rain, He will be the wind's one bane Who hears the Cry of Tyche." Rachel took a long breath. "Wow, that was a long one. Reread time!" They pored over the prophecy with Chiron and the head counselors that night, but all they could get was: Destruction, winds, Tyche. "So what we have so far," Chiron said, "Is that a son of Tyche- of which there are none known- will save everyone from the winds- which could mean like five dozen things. Also, there's mention of love and wisdom, and also dove and owl. Unless there's some other meaning, I believe that means children of Athena and Aphrodite." Nico twisted his skull ring on his finger. "So, just about fifteen campers it could be. Great." A kid from Aphrodite- Nico wasn't sure who, all their faces kind of melted together in his head- leaned forwards. "It also says they'll part ways, meaning they were friends- or more." The Athena kid nodded. "It does say a good bit about love. So, probably more. Should we look for a boy and girl from Athena and Apollo?" Nico growled as Will said, "Wait just a second!" The Athena kid shook his head frantically. "I mean, a couple?" Nico just glared, but sighed. Hector, senior camper of Nike cabin, looked at the Aphrodite girl- Quinn, Nico remembered. "Are any of your campers dating? Like, actually dating, not just messing with someone?" Quinn nodded slowly, all the pieces fitting together in her mind. "Sparrow and Melanie- an Athena kid- have something. They're not dating dating, but I've seen how they look at each other." Chiron sighed. "So we're sending two seventh-graders on a quest? Sure, Sparrow's been here for three years, but Melanie... not even a full summer!" Rachel sat up higher in her chair. "It's what the prophecy said. Now, we've just gotta find this nonexistent son of Tyche." Nico was struck with an idea. "Melanie's new to being a demigod- we could send her out into the schools to look for the son of Tyche. And Zeus knows we need more demigods at camp." The next day, Melanie was sent into her first school. A week later, she switched. This happened for a while, then one day, she found someone...
