When humans burn fossil fuels, cut down forests, and farm livestock, it releases carbon dioxide gas to the atmosphere and increases the greenhouse effect and global warming. Weather Air pollution can also cause acid rain or acid precipitation. Acid precipitation is caused by pollutants in the air. When it precipitates, acid particles by either wet or dry fall from the sky. Sulfur Dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which are caused by burning fossil fuels, usually cause this. Sulfur Dioxide and Nitrogen oxides are emitted by car exhaust systems, coal-burning power plants, chemical plants, oil refineries, aircraft, and other sources. They react with moisture in the air to produce sulfuric acid and nitric acid.
