─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ─── Spirit Orb. ------------- Chapter 3. ------------- Beginings. ------------ Chapter 3 “Yeah, my mom is still at the front, I think.” I scratched the back of my neck, glancing in the direction I had come from. “I think my mother has just about had it with me. I’m supposed to feel something when I get near the right Orb, but so far, there’s nothing.” Sverre glanced at the nearest Orb, but sighed, shaking his head. “I think I saw one that felt a bit different somewhere back there…” I trailed over to a group of Orb lanterns hanging a few feet behind me, and I felt a ray of happiness as Sverre followed. I stopped at one of the lower hanging ones. A shade of reddish orange emitted from the Spirit Orb, which was almost a perfect circle. It seemed to glow brighter as I approached. “Yeah, it defiantly feels different to the others. I think this may be the one!” Sverre gave a small smile. “Good for you; that was easy.” I undid the latch of the lantern and reached inside. The Orb emitted heat as well as light. It floated about an inch above the palm of my hand as I brought it out and set it over my shoulder where it hovered, bobbing slightly in the air. I turned back to Sverre and gave him a nervous smile. The light from my Orb illuminated his face, turning the tips of his hair to gold. I opened my mouth to reassure him that he’d find his Orb before the day was over, but I was interrupted by the loudest bang I’d ever heard in my life. It was like the earth was being torn apart. A few seconds passed as I clutched my head, trying to regain my hearing, and then the shockwave hit us. A thousand shards of glass shattered and rained down on us like falling stars, covering the floor as the windows were blasted inwards. Cracks appeared on the walls and lanterns crashed to the ground around us. A bomb. Did a petrol station explode? Or was this something else? Was anybody hurt? Before I could answer any of these questions, a person dressed completely in white with a mask on their face appeared behind me from out of nowhere, grabbed my Spirit Orb, and tried to run. The Orb pulled back against them, like it was attached to me by a magnet, but the person was stronger, and wrenched it away with a loud snapping sound. The person vanished through the broken windows. I was so, so confused. What was happening? Why did that person just steal my Spirit Orb? Where was my mom? People were screaming in the street, running for cover as building began to crumble due to the shockwave the explosion had caused. More people dressed in white with masks covering their faces began attacking. They had long staffs and knives and swords. I even heard a few gunshots. This just added to the panic. I watched with dazed eyes as they began wrenching people’s Spirit Orbs away from them, ripping the light from their faces and stuffing them into sacks. I finally registered that we were in danger when the white-clothed people began entering the Spirit Shop. I heard cries from somewhere up ahead, and I knew that they must have gotten either Sverre’s mom, my mom, or the lady at the counter. I was about to run and help them when I felt someone grab my arm and start running. I thought it was one of the attackers, but when I looked, it was Sverre. He was yelling something at me, but I couldn’t hear him while we were running. He pulled me further into the shop. There were no windows here, which probably meant that the attackers couldn’t get us as easily. It also meant that we were trapped. “Ah… Sverre?” He didn’t answer, but he did slow to a stop. “Can you walk?” he asked, and I realised that he’d practically been holding me up the entire time. “I- uh, yeah. Yeah, I think so.” I stuttered. My legs felt all wobbly and weak, and I wasn’t sure if it was from the shock or something else. Sverre had glass shards sprinkled over his hair and shoulders that glinted as they caught the small amount of light that could reach back this far into the shop. His hair was ruffled, but he still looked neat and elegant. There were a couple of scratches on his face, and a sizeable shard was embedded into his cheek, but he seemed OK. I however, felt weak and tired, like I’d been doing star jumps all day without a break. My head throbbed with pain. I put my hand to my forehead, and almost jumped out of my skin when it came away completely red. “Oh. Oh dear.” Sverre took a step towards me, frowning. “You have a very large gash across your forehead. Hold still.” He reached out, gently taking my head in his hands. I’m sure that if I wasn’t already half unconscious from pain and exhaustion, I would have fainted right then and there. Sverre’s fingers brushed my scalp for a few seconds, before he gripped and yanked something right out of the wound. “OW!” I stumbled backwards, one hand to the gash to staunch the flow of blood now pouring out. “What did you do?” ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ─── He held up a shard. “Your cut was glowing.” Was all he said. I leant in to get a closer look at what I had assumed to be a glass shard, but I could now see that it was a dull orange colour and pulsed with faint light. “M- my Spirit Orb?” I gently took the shard from him and examined it. It had the same energy as my Orb had, before it was stolen. “I think it’s a shard from your Orb; it must have broken off when that person yanked it away.” Sverre offered, shrugging. “But that’s the least of our worries. We’re trapped in this Shop while a riot of some kind is going off outside, and unless we can find a back door, then we’re dead.” I nodded, shoving the shard into my pocket. “Right, right, let’s think.” but all I could think about was the people in white taking everybody’s Spirit Orbs like bullies in the playground. “Did you see them? They were taking people’s Orbs. We’re in a shop that specially sells those same Orbs…” I trailed off, shivering. “You don’t think they’ll come this far back, do you?” “I don’t know; there are still Orbs back here, and if they’re willing to fight people for them, then surely they’ll be willing to take them all from the Spirit Shops, no matter how far back they are.” He turned and made his way even deeper into the shop. “Then I guess we better start looking for that back door.” ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ─── ₊❏❜ ⁀➷⋮[ Jaime ] [ 21. 1 . 2022 ]❜ ....................... ₊❏❜ ⁀➷⋮ Hi guys!!!
