People couldn't believe their eyes when they spotted the HOS badge on the car, due to the brand's somewhat tainted reputation in the previous decades. The first few model year units weren't as good quality due to a low budget (irregular fit and finish, early turbo engines were underdeveloped). Nevertheless, the new Vilna for the new millennium was a sensation, with multiple prestigious car magazines praising its dependability, technology and refinement. It also scored well on safety, with a 5-star NCAP rating (thanks to many innovations such as the BAGMATIC® system) and the IIHS Top Safety Pick 2006 award. This, along with HOS's fresh new 1999 range helped relaunch the brand to the giant that it is today.
