CHAPTER ONE: HOME “Link! Link! Linky!..... WAKE UP, BIG BROTHER!” I sat up in bed, feeling annoyed. Why does Dani always have to wake me up by screaming in my ear? I looked at the 8-year old’s face. She had 2 pigtails with flowers tied in them, and she was wearing a blue shirt and pink trousers. Blue banners were hung on the walls in my room, and the turquoise tunic my father had bought from the market was hanging in my closet. If you have not guessed, my favorite color is blue. “It’s your birthday, Linky!” exclaimed Dani. “Now you’re twelve! We hung blue banners all around the house!” I got out of bed and motioned to Dani to get out. She wandered away, and I shut the door, then put on my turquoise tunic. Then I walked out of my room. father had promised me that we would visit Zora’s domain. Zora’s domain is my favorite place in Hyrule. Zora are people that have the build of a hylian, and the features of a fish. When I was Dani’s age, father, who was the chief of the royal guard, met with some Zora at the king’s request, and let me tag along. There, I met the Zora princess, Mipha. We quickly made friends with each other. The only thing I remembered about her was her face. And that is still fuzzy. I remember her eyes. Amber eyes. I was surprised to see mother cooking in the kitchen. I usually handled the cooking work so mother could care for the house and make us clothes. “You know how to cook?” I exclaimed. “Of course! I’m the one who taught you how to cook.” I sat at the old table me and my father had handmade and began to eat. Mother had made a feast! There were dishes from simple omelets to curry made from Goron spice. I took a little of everything and began to wolf down every bit of food. Mother had always said that I was a glutton. Across the table, father was feeding Dani fish that we had caught in a pond near our house. When we finished, we headed outside. There was no sunshine when we walked down the front steps. The sky was dark grey. “Well,” said father, “Don’t get put out. Clouds aren’t always bad.” But I saw through his face. He was worried, as if it were a bad omen. CHAPTER TWO: THE PATH TO ZORA’S DOMAIN We walked to the stable in our backyard. We had four horses, one for each member of the family. I had a dark brown horse with black hair. I had named her Hazel. My father’s horse was light brown with white hair, and he had named her Epona. Dani’s horse was light pink, and she had named him Cloud. And my mother’s horse, Midnight, was well, midnight black. We decided that we would take Epona to Zora’s domain, so me, Dani, and father climbed on. Sadly, mother could not come. Someone always had to stay home; it was too probable a thief would attack. We rode out of our town, hateno village, and past the forest. I saw a family of deer. They seemed to be celebrating. I buried my head into father’s shoulder. It was a long way to Zora’s domain. “Link!” I woke up staring at father’s face. I looked around. We had gotten to kakariko village, about halfway to Zora’s domain. “I have to talk to Impa. Can you take Dani around town?” “Alright!” Since father often meets with Impa, the chief of kakariko village, I have been here many times, and gotten to know the village very well. Kakariko village was the home to the sheikah tribe, who were servants of the royal family of hyrule. Father walked away to the chief’s house. “Come on, Dani!” I held her hand and we strolled through the village.
First, we went to my favorite store, the curious quiver, which sells FIRE ARROWS! The tip looked like a frozen mini bonfire. (I know that doesn’t make sense) We examined some and then walked out. Dani wanted to go to the farm, so we walked off. We checked out the cuccos, like chickens. “Cock-a-doodle-doo!” shouted Dani. Then we went to a field growing carrots. Dani loved carrots! She began talking about carrots. “Well, well!” said the worker there. “Seems like you have a liking for these! Why not take some?” He filled a big bag with carrots and handed it to us. “I’m afraid I have no money on me, sir,” I replied. “No need to spend a rupee, young man!” the worker replied. “It’s just for you!” “Th-th-th-thank you!” I said in amazement. “Thank you!” copied Dani. “No need!” replied the worker. “Come back again!” Happy, we walked back to the horse. Father was waiting for us. “What’s that?” he asked when he saw the bag in my hand. “We went to farm and saw cuccos and nice person give us carrots!” Dani shouted happily. We tied the bag the Epona’s saddle, climbed aboard, and rode on. There was a moblin waiting for us at the crossroads. Moblins are tall, skinny monsters with elephant-like noses and giant horns. It snorted and swiftly walked to us, hefting its club. We could easily outride it, but if we made any sudden movements, it would hit us or Epona. I looked around for anything that could help. I caught sight of a deer, and the bag of carrots came to mind. Slowly, I reached into the bag and took out a big one and held it up. The deer’s head perked up, and I threw the carrot at the monster's feet. The deer charged toward the moblin, and we raced off. We soon arrived at the east reservoir and saw a beautiful bridge. “Cross this bridge and arrive at Zora’s domain!” said father cheerfully. There was a small stable where we put Epona, and we walked across the bridge. I looked down and saw the east reservoir. I thought I saw something swimming below. Could it be Zora? Halfway across the bridge, two Zora were standing guard. “Say hey there!” said one of them. “Welcome to Zora’s domain!” I remembered what Zora looked like when I saw them. They had sharp teeth, fins on their wrists and ankles, amber eyes, and fish tails instead of hair. “Thank you!” father replied. “Hey......I know you!” said one of them. “My name is Muzu.” Olive green was his color. “I know you too!” said father. “Princess Mipha’s mentor, correct?” “Correct! Continue on!” We walked to the end of the bridge and arrived at Zora’s domain. CHAPTER THREE: ZORA’S DOMAIN Zora’s domain was a city above water, completely made of ice. We walked through the corridors, marveling at the ice sculptures. I saw one of a Zora knight armed with a spear. Another was of king dorephean. We were getting close to the throne room. I was so excited to see princess Mipha! We walked up some ice steps, which were a little slippery. “Alright, Link, you can get two birthday presents from Zora’s domain,” said father. “Here, take my wallet.” “Thanks, dad!” I skipped off, looking for the blacksmith. I had always wanted a sword, and Zora sword would be really cool. I found the blacksmith’s store, and went in. I saw spears, swords, bows, shields, maces, and other weapons. I wandered around, examining the weapons, and came across a magnificent sword. It had a silver blade with dolphin designs, and a handguard of silver fish. The grip had turquoise lace and the pommel was a teal gem. The blacksmith, watching me, said, “Well, young man! That sword you see there, it is 100 rupees! Want to buy?” “Yes please, sir! He took out a silver scabbard embroidered with sapphire and sheathed the sword inside it. “Would you like me to strap the sword to you?” he asked. I nodded. “To your waist or your back?” “My back, please.” While he worked away, he asked, “What brings you to Zora’s domain?” “It’s my birthday.” “Well, well! It is your birthday, hmm? Then this sword is half the price! 50 rupees!” “Thank you, sir!” I gave him a purple rupee (purple=50 rupees) I walked out, wondering what else I should buy. done for now
