You continue to see the kid repeatedly. You still don't know if it's coincidental or not, but ever since the time you surprised him, he's been careful to keep an eye on you so it doesn't happen again. You didn't talk to him that time, either. He made a noise of surprise and dashed out the door. You don't know what his problem is, but the longer this goes, the more determined you are to get him to talk.
