Hi I’m new to scratch! I can’t wait to meet new people! Here’s a quick tutorial on how to paint a realist cat/cat study this is in procreate but can probably be copied onto other art programs aswell. 1. I made this art piece in a 500x500 canvas. Use a reference photo for your drawing aswell. 2. I sketched out the cats body and face with very basic shapes, things might be out of place you can fix that later, but try to get things in the correct placement and size. You want to use very basic lines, no details just yet. 3. I first work with the face and it’s muscles, I haven’t drawn the fur just yet. Adjust anything from your first sketch if needed. Pay attention to the shapes that the face makes. 4. I then sketched in the fur, you can just draw lines in the direction the fur is falling. Again, adjust anything needed from your first sketch. 5. Lay down the basic colors. Anything that from afar is seen, such as prominent shadows and colors. This dosnt have to be detailed. 6. I did the two coat colors on diffrent layers, merg them so it’s easier to blend. 7. For details in the fur I use a brush I found, but the brushes procreate give you are just fine, I recommend the fist brush or round brush, which ever you prefer. 8. I lowered the sketch opacity so I could see where I was painting. Color drop the colors from your reference, if something seems to dark then you probobly haven’t painted enough yet, and the colors around it should trick your eyes to see it as lighter, compared to the colors around it. Don’t blend just yet 9. I did the same for the eyes, nose and ears. 10. Now for blending I use the same brush as for fur, but acrylic brush could work too, matters what texture your working towards. 11. Blend in small spaces, don’t just blend the whole face together, do that and you’ll loose your colors. 12. Finished products, remember you can always go back and make changes!
