today i decided to draw virtually again!! i've been doodling a bunch of faces traditionally, but i haven't been drawing digitally for a while. i decided to take a different path and try painting - basically, after i sketched, i did this all on one layer with one brush and one blender. i haven't really done this before, so for my first try at painting i think i did well!! this might be because of all the planes of the face things i've been thinking about. i've started observing faces more closely and thinking about what parts are hit by light instead of a more formulaic approach of "shade here, highlight here" - which i think helps with making things more realistic. also, i've been thinking about how shading is almost never just a greyer or darker shade - there tend to be different hues, as well. i stuck to warmer colors in this piece, but i tried to incorporate a wider range of hues. this is still pretty stylized, so i don't think it counts as "realistic" or even semi-realistic - hence the name of the project. (if you're musically inclined you might get it lol) there's still a lot i have to improve on - particularly the details of the nose, the way eyes change from different perspectives, and the more complicated bits of the ears. this is not even mentioning the fact that i didn't even do hair for this,,, but that's another matter lol program: clip studio paint hardware: mac & wacom intuos tablet time taken: ~35 minutes brushes used: g-pen and painterly blender
