This project is NOT new; the photos have existed since just after the accident happened on 11th February 2022, so a year now. I wasn't permitted to share the photos until the SBRAI report was released, but that happened a while back and I guess I forgot.
The Smithon level crossing crash took place at about 19:20 on Friday 11th February 2022. An incorrectly-attached cattle trailer broke down, partly obscuring the level crossing. The driver of the 4X4 phoned the signaller, but 1Y62, a GMR HST about 40 minutes into the 2.5-hour journey from Fowlington Interchange to Sennemouth, was already approaching the nearest signals and not long approaching the crossing. After an unsuccessful attempt to move his trailer, the HST arrived and the angle of collision deflected the power car left and into a stone wall, the slowing effect causing the coaches behind to derail also. All the cattle in the trailer and 5 people on the train died, including driver Jessica Swallow. The trailing power car 43723 isn't visible because - as it did not derail - it was sent back to Holmesbridge light engine (as 0Y62). In March 2022, works began to level the hill and move the stone wall earthworks, which are nearly complete as of January 2023.
