SAVE THE ENDANGERED BLOBFISH!!!!!! Use the arrow keys to move the blobfish. Do not hit the trash or the nets. The goal is to get to the color on the right side of the screen. Once you have touched the color you will move on to the next level. There are four levels you have to complete before you win!!!! I could have done it in a few scripts, but I like to organize them so that I don't get screwed up Blobfish Paragraphs Physical Characteristics The blobfish is a very unique creature and it's partly because of it's amazing physical characteristics. When you first see a blobfish either on the computer or in real life, you might think that it is from a cartoon and it isn't real. The blobfish was first discovered in the year of 2003 where they named it Mr. Blobby due to it's blob-like form. This animal was voted the ugliest organism in 2013 because it looks like a squished and deformed human face. The blobfish can grow up to about 12 inches and weigh 21 pounds. They have white flesh that has a distinct pinkish tone to it. Blobfish are like snowflakes in a sense because scientists have never found two blobfish who were alike. Blobfish have a very slow aging rate. Because of this, scientists think that an average blobfish can live up to about 130 years! They have very few muscles and most of them control the movement of their mouth and their swallowing. A blobfish's skin is gelatinous causing the blobfish to float just above the ocean floor. Unlike regular fish, they do not have a gas bladder. To them, it is completely useless because they don't need it to float. Blobfish are different in many ways, but that is what makes scientists continue to study this creature. Habitat and Diet The blobfish has a very boring diet, but it has a very unusual way to eat catch and eat it's food. It also lives in a very harsh environment. The blobfish lives off the coast of Australia and Tasmania between 2,000 and 4,000 ft deep in the ocean. Blobfish experience about 80 times more pressure than we do. It is between 32°F and 37°F where they live. The blobfish mainly eats small crabs and particles in the water. It does this by opening up it's mouth and waiting for food to come into it. Blobfish do not migrate because they barely have any muscles, so they have to just float with the current. Blobfish are very abnormal creatures because they don’t fit in with all others creatures of the oceans. Adaptations to habitat The blobfish’s most useful adaptation is it’s gelatinous flesh. Because they live very deep under water experiencing high pressure, their skin is less dense than water, so they are able to float just above the ocean floor. Also, they don’t have gas bladder like other fish because they are completely useless because of their skin. It also keeps the blobfish from getting crushed under the enormous pressure. They are very weak, but they are just about strong enough to open up their mouths. Blobfish do not have any natural predators, so they do not have any methods of defense. Blobfish have very few important adaptations, but they are really vital and important. Reasons for Endangerment Approximately 420 blobfish are living today because of overfishing and trash. When deep sea fishing trawlers fish in the bottom of the oceans, blobfish can easily get caught in their nets. If they are caught in fishing nets, they will probably die because they can’t move by themselves. A blobfish dies pretty quickly if it comes out of the water. Some unintelligent fishermen eat the blobfish that they catch, but others throw them back in where they have a possibility of continuing to live. When females lay eggs, fishing trawlers can easily knock them over, causing them to break. Nobody has ever found male blobfish, so they don’t know how they reproduce. Since, blobfish leave their mouths open to eat, trash can unexpectedly float into their mouths and cause them to get sick and even die! There are many ways that blobfish are endangered and because of this, they are nearly extinct.
For my science project for endangered species!
