TL;DR - I'm literally every other ranting project you've ever seen. Please bear with me. I don't have a little cutesy introduction, so I'm just going to get started. Topic 1. Asking to be friends with somebody is not ok. I repeat, just asking, "I love your content! Can we be friends?" is not ok. Scratch is essentially a website full of strangers; one sentence will not change that. I honestly don't care if you're asking for fame or because you genuinely want to be friends- these messages are not welcome. Dictionary.com defines the word "friend" as "A person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard." Think of it like this, since most people treat scratchers with a high follower count like genuine celebrities. If you saw your favorite celebrity walking down the street, would you run up to them and beg to be friends? No, you wouldn't. It's rude and inconsiderate. What many people here don't understand is that a friendship is mutual. I recognize that it can be hard to meet new people online, but people don't become friends by simply asking. Being friends comes through shared experience and mutual agreement. It does not come from saying that you want to "get to know" someone and then listing your favorite foods, colors, and music genre. Those are things that people could quickly learn from looking at your "about me" or "hu-meme" or honestly even your bio/wiwo. Even worse are the people who think they're being smart about it. These are the people who say things like, "I hope we can become friends, but I know being friends comes naturally!!" These people contradict themselves in the same sentence. If you know that being friends comes naturally, don't ask to be friends. Simple as that. Now, my personal part of this rant. This may not apply to other scratchers. Scratch has become a refuge for me. I have a set group of friends who love and support me, and I talk to them almost every day. I understand that I may sound like a pretentious jerk saying this, but I'm not in the market for random friends right now. I will absolutely be polite and friendly and carry on a conversation with whoever may comment on my profile or projects, but aside from a few exceptions /please/ don't ask to be friends. There are so many people asking to be friends with "famous" people- but you never see scratchers with low follower counts getting countless friend requests. If you're looking for friends and see someone else doing the same, go ask them to be friends! I'm sure they would greatly appreciate it. Topic 2. How hard is it to credit someone? Why do people insist on crediting people like this @.person or this @/person? What's the point? Do you not want ugly blue text ruining your aesthetic bio or description? Well, I hate to break it to you, but that's not really crediting. The original creator could honestly report you, though I know many people won't. If you can't click on the link to somebody's profile, it's not crediting. Simple as that. Topic 3. Maybe I'm just saying this out of jealousy, but it's still true. Famous scratchers are often treated as celestial beings, idols, and celebrities, simply because of their high follower count. I personally find it disgusting. I understand that you admire their content, which is perfectly valid. These creators are famous for a reason, after all. However, worshipping them to a point where they become your idol? That's honestly not ok. It's also not ok to compliment them and self-deprecate yourself simultaneously. I've seen so many comments like this, not only on aesthetic users' profiles but on others as well. Comments complimenting their account and saying yours is trash only make them feel poorly about themselves. It's perfectly ok to compliment somebody, but please do not self-deprecate yourself in the process. Topic 4. (This isn't really a rant, simply a reveal) A while ago, I made an account where I would rant about topics in scratch that bothered me, such as proper crediting. I'm going to reshare that project on this account so that more people can see it. So, the account was . I love the username, but I lost the motivation to create more meaningful projects. Feel free to check it out if you want! I'm sorry for having this be so long, but I hope it brought up some points that will make an impact. - Maia thumb style inspired by , go check azzie out :)
