Sorry for such a wait! I've had no motivation lately!! Here's chapter 7! Before you read this, make sure you go back and reread chapter 6, as I've changed some things. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mandy brought me as far as the hallway. "I can't take you any farther," she apologized. "That's okay!" I reassured her. I gave her a quick hug. "Down the hall on the left," she said slowly. "You'll find the number." "Right," I said. I repeated that to myself until I found the door. When I got to room 217, it was locked. Instead, there was a paper taped to the door, listing students names and different rooms. I recognized all the other names of the students from the announcement earlier. I dragged my finger down the list, looking for my name. When I finally found it, not only did it say my name, but it also listed that it was my first time. Zappy didn't need to announce it to the world, everyone already knew I was new. It seemed that the "new kid" shadow would follow me everywhere. My new room number was 213, back down the hall. I retraced my steps until I found it. I shook out my nerves and took a shaky breath. I tucked my hair behind my ears and twisted the cool metal of the doorknob. With mock confidence, I stepped inside. The interior of the room was much like what you'd expect a doctor's office to look like. Off to one side, there was a table with paper on it. On the other, there was a sink with a cabinet above it. On the far wall, there was another door. Next to the desk was a woman sitting on a spinny stool. She smiled warmly towards me. "Come on in!" She grinned. "No need to be nervous, I don't bite!" "I might," I mumbled as I climbed up onto the table. I crossed my arms. "What is this?" I asked, always on offence, though the question hinted at my curiosity. The woman smiled back. She had dirty blonde hair with whitish blonde highlights, almost an ombre effect toward the top of her head, where it was darker. She had deep hazel eyes framed with mascara, and a modest nose piercing on the left side of her nose. She was wearing short-sleeved, rouge-colored scrubs. Underneath her scrubs, she wore a turquoise, green, and magenta colored long-sleeved tee. Her nails were painted the same color as the turquoise in her undershirt. "It's just a checkup, like when you go to the doctor's office." She promised. I relaxed. She gave me what doctors normally do. She checked my ears, and eyes. She checked my heartbeat, breathing, and reflexes. She even got a little machine out from under the sink and tested my hearing. (CONTINUE DOWN BELOW)
"That's it?" I asked when she finished. "Not quite," she responded, concealing her emotions. She handed me a blue paper gown. "I'm going to step out of the room for a minute. Will you put this on?" I nodded. So far, she hadn't given me a reason to distrust her, so why would I stop now? "Ready?" She called when I was finished. "Yeah," I called back. I hated these things. The paper was itchy and they were too revealing for my taste. She walked back in the room. "Follow me into this next room," she said. "I just want to do a few more examinations." The woman walked toward the other doors. I followed. In the other room, the only piece of furniture in there was another table, almost identical to the first one, except this one had handles on either side of it. It was in the middle of the room. The wall closest to the foot of the table had a mirror on it. I climbed onto the bed. "Could you lie down for me?" She asked. "I need to take your blood pressure, and the easiest way for me to do that is if you're laying down with your right arm over the side of the rail." "Sure," I said. I did what she asked. She wrapped the cuff around the middle of my arm, which struck me as odd. She squeezed the ball, but instead of feeling the cuff get tighter, I felt a needle stab me right where my arm bent. "What is that?" I asked. "Just relax," she replied. "It'll all be over soon." She slid a gas mask over my mouth and nose. "To keep you calm," was her only explanation. I felt the room start to spin around me. "What's happening?" I asked, genuinely scared. Just then, Zap-Happy strolled into the room, wearing a paper mask, blue scrubs, and rubber gloves. He stood at the foot of my bed, and pulled down his mask. The room spun faster. He leaned over the foot of the gourney. "Hello, Aiko." he grinned.
