@koreanwarriorcats asked about this so i thought i could better do it in a project idk! 1) i typically like to sketch the hand as a trapezoid with a little extra chunk on the side where the thumb will be! obviously i still have work to do with practicing hands, but just thought sharing the sketches might help bring clarity as to where i get the finished hands from! 2) when i was learning to draw hands it helped me to draw the middle and ring finger as one shape with a line separating them! i know a lot of other people do this too, as those fingers usually move (generally) simultaneously! just make sure not to use this as a crutch and switch to drawing them separately when you feel comfortable with it! 3) think of hands as an extension of the general pose if that makes sense? for example, if someone’s mad and they’re all tensed up, the cherry on top would be their hands balled up into fists to really push the expression! 4) practice a lot! it specifically might help to pull up a picture of a hand and set a timer for 15-30 seconds to just get the gesture down quickly! for me, hands are mostly about gesture, so i like to practice the gesture part most! (repeat 3-4 times for practice!) 4.5) ^ if you want to also improve anatomically on hands, proko will probably have a good video on it! 5) also ethan becker says in a video, which i agree, that it’s easier to draw the fingers in two joints even though they have three (except the thumb) because it’s easier to learn and then you can add the details of the third join later! the fingertip typically only really changes directions from the rest of the finger with clenched fists or when you’re holding something! hopefully this is helpful sorry if it’s not :’)
