It's not funny. gen z, Americans, little and big kids online are making jokes about catastrophic recent events. People have died. People are dying. People will continue to die. As an American myself, seeing other Americans joke about this situation is not ok. The war doesn't affect us. The war is happening in Ukraine right. now. What's been happening? - for those of you who don't know, Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, directed military to invade Ukraine. just yesterday, (Feb 24) about 150 Ukranians had died and over 300 were injured. About 100,000 Ukranians have been displaced. Russia has fired bombs and missiles over cities all around Ukraine. Why can't you make jokes about it? - Gen Z has an infamous way of dealing with bad news - Covid has spawned INFINITE jokes and much more, all lightening the mood. Covid, like the war, is an ongoing crisis that has killed people. Neither of these current events should be joked about. - lots of the joking was in the days leading up to the war. wars are incredibly heavy topics, and kids/teens don't exactly know how to deal with that, so they make jokes. the days leading up to the first attack everyone was terrified and hiding it. its no longer a joke. the war is real, and it's happening right. now. Feb 23, thousands of people were messaging Putin, making jokes, begging him in a satirical form because they weren't worried. If they were, they weren't expressing their concerns correctly. The next morning, the world woke up to war. It's not funny. the scratch side of things: - im scared that this war will become another trend. #stopasianhate and #blm were and are not trends to gain followers, but ok scratch that's what they were. ALREADY ive seen #standwithukraine projects. its amazing that you're showing your support but PLEASE. do not glorify this war, do not use it for your own advantage. I don't know too much more about this, and i don't want to dive much deeper into my research because it's a pretty heavy topic.
