The Antonov AN-225, the world's largest plane, has been destroyed in the fighting around its base of Hostomel Airport. Originally built by the Soviet Union to transport the Buran Space Shuttle, it has been used by Ukraine after the fall of the USSR to transport cargo no other aircraft could transport. More recently, it carried medical supplies all over the world during the pandemic. It will be missed.
