Blackkit (named after her dark mud coloured pelt) was born to Amberpetal of LeafClan and Maple the rogue just before leaf-bare along with her stillborn sister Siverkit (named after the silver-pelt she now resides in) and her brother Whitekit (named after his snow white fur). Blackkit and Whitekit were very close even though the two kits were complete opposites, Whitekit being playful and positive while Blackkit is serious and stoic. The kits' mother was absent from their lives as when the kits opened, Amberpetal became very sick with green-cough and had to leave her kits. Maple stayed in the nursery with his kits and was their main parental figure. Whitekit softened Blackit's abrasive personality and the two were never apart. When the kits were about 3 moons old, they both caught green-cough. Blackkit recovered in about a moon, while Whitekit got more and more sick. When Blackkit was 5 moons old, Whitekit and Amberpetal died of green-cough. Maple left the clan out of grief and Blackkit retreated into herself, refusing to talk to anyone.
