Part 2: They took off and landed at an alley at the back of a building. He walked through it and was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer amount of dragons in the village. “We got this…” he said under his breath. “Let’s go look for a merchant to ask.” He told his friends. They wove through the crowds and decided on a Sandwing with a diamond-patterned tail selling some sort of cactus. They walked over to his booth, dodging a grumpy looking Sandwing who hissed at them when Viper stepped on her tail. “Sorry!” he called to her, earning himself some curious stares. Fateshifter hissed in exasperation and pulled him forward. “Don’t appologize to everyone you see! I don’t think thats normal around here.” he whispered as he stole a quick glance at a group of young Sandwings watching them intently. “Now, remember the plan.” he walked confidently over to the Sandwing, Viper and Ocelot right behind him. “Hello sir!” he said cheerfully, “I’m looking for a merchant with a golden tail band. I think it has sapphires, if my friend was remembering right. She was /very/ jealous of someone because they had one, and I was hoping to get her one…” His voice trailed off as the huge Sandwing stood up. “You know what I don’t like?” he growled, “Dragonets. Especially ones who ask questions.” he bared his teeth at them. “You Nightwings may think that you’re so superior, but you’re just as easy to-” “Now, now Diamondback. Is that how we treat dragonets?” a merchant selling beads interrupted. “I’m sorry dears. He’s a pain in the tail, that one.” she beckoned them over. “I’m Quicksand. I couldn’t help but overhear your question, and I think you’re looking for Ostrich. Does the name ring a bell?” “Umm, well uh-” Fateshifter started. “He doesn’t know her name. His friend was quite vague. All we know,” he indicated himself and Ocelot, “Is that she’s not from where we come from.” “I see. Well it’s probably her, based on your description. But are you sure you want her line of business?” Quicksand asked. “We don’t exactly know her line of business. My friend was just talking about how much she wanted something she was shown, but didn’t know what it was.” Fateshifter explained. “She sold weapons disguised as jewelry, and other things. Makes sense why your friend couldn’t figure out what it was.” “Sold?” Viper asked. “Is she dead?” Quicksand laughed. “No. She just left suddenly. She was mumbling about having a disappointment of a daughter, and that she needed to ‘knock some sense into her’ the day before.” “Where did she go?” Ocleot asked. Quicksand gave her a strange look. “So Fateshifter can get the gift for his friend.” she added quickly. “Not sure… wait! Maybe she went to the Sky kingdom to look for the daughters father.” she offered. “Why would the father be in the Sky kingdom?” Viper asked. “Wow, you’re really not from around here, are you?” She smiled. “The father is a Skywing, and it was this big thing. She would stop getting costumers because dragons were worried that somehow being around the dragonet would give them the plague. Eventually, she agreed to send the dragonet to live with her father, where she took apon a Skywing name.” Quicksand finished. “Do you think you could point us in the right direction of the Sky Kingdom?” Ocelot asked. “Yes of course. Its that way, past that oasis about 50 or so miles.” They thanked her and made their way to their friends, careful to take the longest way possible as to not lead anyone to them. It didn’t matter. A slightly larger Nightwing had landed in front of his friends.
