Welcome to your text-based horse riding adventure! This game is, so far, about a beginning rider in an (unspecified) English discipline. Instructions are mostly true to how horses and riders are taught in real life. Click through the text. There's a one second cool down for clicks on any text that doesn't require another interaction (i.e. key input) The tutorials will have all you need to know about the controls for this realistic horse sim, but a general list is: -W to really loosen the reins (only applicable in the beginning of the tutorial, so you don't hang on the horse's mouth) -S to pull back on both reins evenly -A and D to pull/open left and right rein -Spacebar to kick with both legs -Left and right arrow key to use legs independently -M to mount or remount (if you fall off and at the start of each ride) -P to pet the horse (at the start of each ride; increases bond*); required to initiate any ride. *bond will be essential to do well at shows. If you and your horse don't trust each other enough, the horse is more likely to not listen to you, and you are more likely to fall off. Additional mechanics: When turning, you will need to hold the keys for a specific amount of time. This may not be true to life. Small walk circle/med trot circle/med-large canter circle: 10 sec Med walk circle/large trot circle: 15 sec Small trot circle/small canter circle: 5 sec A half turn or the turning portion of a serpentine is half of the time required for a full circle.
Updates so far: Mar 10, 2022 Walk tutorial, steering tutorial, bond mechanic introduced. Game published. Some sound. Planned updates: Progress indicators for longer maneuvers? Tutorials- trotting (under construction), cantering, leg use Complicated maneuvers- haunch turn, backing at an angle, half halts Flat classes- perform specific maneuvers in a certain amount of time- possibly huntseat flat patterns and dressage tests? Achievements- ribbons/tack? Unlocking other horses Hack rides Catch rides at shows? Prospects (training young horses)? Implementing a tutorial skip after the first lesson- the player would have almost no bond with the tutorial horse due to this Possibly make a whole separate game for the competition aspect and have this be a tutorial Not planned: Animating this in any way. It's just too much for me lol Breeding. Too complicated. Naming yourself or your horse. I have enough to deal with in the text without that.
