Press the green flag, read the instruction page and then press the space bar to start playing. Using the left/right arrow keys to move sideways and the up arrow key to jump, you must guide James around the level. On the screen discarded carrier bags, crisp packets and banana skins will appear and you must grab these items with the end of James’ litter-picker to send them to the recycling bin.
Platform Pick-Up is a fun game based on the theme of ‘My World, Our Planet’. It reminds users that we can all help protect our planet by picking up rubbish and recycling. It may encourage people to get out and join local litter-picking groups. It is a fun and appealing game, aimed at primary aged children although adults may also enjoy trying to beat their previous score. There is a counter to keep track of your score and you have 30 seconds to collect as many pieces of recycling as possible. This game is fun because every time you play, it is different as the rubbish appears in different places making each game unique This game has been made by James from AwesomeJ Productions at Hamstel Junior School. James says “I found the coding of this game very challenging at times and spent a long time ensuring that the game ran smoothly and correctly. I had to try different ways of coding and try out new things too, for example I had to create a ‘hit-box’ to ensure my character did not get stuck to the levels by his hair or arms when jumping. I have learnt so much about coding and am looking forward to my next creation, however, I do really enjoying playing this game, my best score is 23.”
