His parents didn’t think much of it, dismissing it as a phase. Io, who had always been interested in science, went on to go to a prestigious college in the city of Macurb. There, he continued his experiments, moving on to larger animals. He was able to move to an apartment in the city with a dedicated lab area. When his mother died, Io was devastated. He shut himself up in his lab for weeks, emerging only to eat in his kitchen. He was convinced that if he could just find the right chemical combination, he would be able bring his mother back to life. After hundreds of attempts, he finally gave up. Angrily, he went to properly dispose of the chemicals, and, distracted, he tripped over a stray wire. The tray went flying into a shelf, breaking bottles and spilling chemicals. Io slipped a bit, but kept his footing. He stared at the strange green substance. He had never seen anything like it before. He quickly gathered samples of the stuff and began running tests. After extensive testing, he was shocked to find that the new substance contained life-sustaining properties. Excited, Io k-lled a fly and injected the green goo into its bloodstream. To his great disappointment, the fly did not come back to life. However, Io realized, though the stuff couldn’t revive, it could extend one’s lifespan. “This”, thought Io, “is revolutionary.” After many more weeks of testing, he determined that it was safe for ingestion. He took a tentative sip of the substance he had dubbed “Liquid Life”. He didn’t feel any different, but he knew the changes that were taking place within him. Io smiled. “Now I can stay alive long enough to develop a way to undo the greatest challenge in life... death.” ✻ - ✻ - ✻ Years later, Io moved out of his apartment in Macurb. He traveled to a deserted patch of land far away from civilization and started to dig into the ground. Here, he would build a massive underground laboratory where he would slowly begin to lose his sense of morality. Spending almost all his time underground, he began to experiment on members of his own species, patching together parts just as he used to do with insects when his was young. At first, he de-activated the parts of his subjects’ brains that allowed for conscious thought and perception. One day, however, he wondered what would happen if his experiments were able to think. Curious, Io activated his first experiment, Subject , and hooked him up to tubes of Liquid Life. As he slowly awoke, everything that Io had done to him and the other Subjects flashed through his mind. The memories had been stored in the depths of his brain, but he had not been able to process them until that moment. Subject became angry, recounting the things Io had done. Shocked, the scientist took a step back. This was not supposed to happen. broke free from the tubes and pinned Io to the ground. He looked up and saw all the other subjects locked in their individual cages. Overcome, he let the scientist go and went to break the cages open. He broke locks on some and broke glass on others, eventually releasing them all. Within the last few hundred years, a town had been built up in the exact area Io had chosen. By chance, a café was built directly above the hidden entrance to the lab. Subject burst though a trapdoor Io had built in the back of the café, followed by Io himself. The patrons of the café were stunned as Subject turned to his captor and slashed his claws across Io's face. This would leave him with a scar and one blind eye, which he would later replace with a fake one. "My name", said , "is Radon." But, when he saw all the Subjects gathering in front of him, he knew he had no chance. As the subjects advanced, Io grabbed the test-tube on his back and smashed it on the ground. It instantly formed a thick blue steam, allowing him to escape to the mountains. Radon and the Subjects left the town peacefully in pursuit of Io. ...
