Ears lowered deep blue eyes stared at contrasting hot orange ones. Vinepaw’s stare was one of annoyance as she glared at the two while Skypaw looked at the two with greeting as he chewed at the prey that sat at his paws. Thornpaw lightly brushed past her as he walked towards the two, sending a soft look back at Nightpaw before turning back to both of them. Nightpaw didn’t move to follow him.It was no secret that the tabby she-cat hated her, with her constant glares and back hand remarks that were pointed at her, the she-cat was hesitant to step towards her. Hearing the words of her mentor and his deputy enter camp she slowly followed after her friend. “Patrolling?” Skypaw asked the pair as Vinepaw seemed to just go back to eating her prey in silence. Something Nightpaw noticed, but put on a smile "Yeah,” she purred. "We went by the ShadowClan border. A monster came down the Thunderpath and nearly scared Lionheart out of his fur! So much for being the bravest cat in the clan,” she laughed . Thornpaw grinned as well, eyes looking and her before back at the group. "Yeah, I almost thought his eyes would for sure pop out of his head!" The group laughed at this and conversation seemed to carry even as Creekpaw joined the group to talk about battle training and hunting. Conversation lightening up as the worry from the black she-cat melted into relaxation and joy just talking with her denmates. When she felt hot fur suttle next to her she turned to see a black and white tom rest next to her. His fur was thick and hot even with the chilled breeze of leaf bare. Sheeppaw, was his name. Nightpaw purred quietly in greeting, she had seen him a few times before and he was quiet and kept more to herself then she normally did. Eyes softened she looked up at him, “Don’t worry I don’t bite,” she whispered and her purr grew louder when he felt him relax next to her. “Thank you.” The conversation continued, Nightpaw stuck between Sheeppaw and Thornpaw, her fur warm and heart beating quickly when she looked over at her childhood friend. Hearing his voice her body melted and she was afraid of becoming a pool at his paws. Shaking her head she saw the brown tabby across from her quickly stumble to her paws. Just then the sound of claws on stone sounded on her ears almost as a screeching voice hit her ears, “Vinepaw! What have you been doing all day!?” Deeftufts voice snapped at the apprentices direction. The voices died down around her, Nightpaws ears lowering as her eyes shifted between both she-cats. Deertuft was a mess after Brightkit died. So much so that she had moved to the elders' den. They tried to avoid her. Deertuft’s voice was slurred as she spat hateful things to her, blaming her for her sister’s death. Wishing she had died instead. Nightpaw stood and was about to speak, wanting to get the attention away from Vinepaw and her mothers cries, until Heronfeather was in front of them. Watching the gray tom lead the she-cat away, Nightpaw's eyes returned to see the tabby's head lowered. "Vinepaw-" "I don't want to hear it." She whispered harshly, the sound barely hitting the black she-cats ears. Hot tears were seen hitting the ground under her. Nightpaw took a step forward, but she was already dashing out of camp. "Vinepaw, please, just wait!" It was Thornpaw this time, his voice pleading. She was gone. Turning she saw the hurt look of both of the toms faces. Nightpaw looked and listened, she could hear the hushed whispers of her clanmates. Some were snarky remarks, some were sorrowful comments. The she-cat spoke, “Maybe instead of standing around you could of done something to help the situation. All of you had the power yet you did…nothing. That’s just cruel,” her voice was low. She didn’t even see the look that flashed across her mentor's face before she turned and left. On the path to follow after her fellow apprentice. Soft cries broke her train of thought as her head rose. White ears folded down as from between the underbrush Nightpaw saw the soft brown pelt of VInepaw, body shaking as tears fell. “Vinepaw?” She called out softly as she stepped into view. Angered eyes turned and a quick snarl left the tabbies mouth as she snapped to look at her. “Vinepaw…I know we haven’t been much on talking turns after…” the words hung on her tongue as her eyes lowered to the bladed grass between them. After Brightkit’s death the only words they shared were focused through sharp teeth and hesitant words, the she-cat knew that. “But Vinepaw, you can talk to me.” She said raising her head to look at her with a gentle, sympathetic smile as her paws stepped towards the she-cat. “No!” Vinepaw yowled, quickly standing with fur on end. “No I won't! I hate you Nightpaw! I /hate/ you! What do you not understand about that!?" She screamed. Vile filed the dark cats throat as her body flinched and ears folded to try and muffle the venom filled words.
"You keep on trying to be so nice, like you're living in some kind of fantasy where everyone gets along and loves you! But this is real. Life. You act like you're oh so shy and sweet and kind and perfect and like you can't do anything wrong and I hate that! You came into the Clan like it's StarClan's idea of a joke to replace my sister, my only friend in the whole wide world with you! You who thinks she's so graceful and elegant and perfect!" She paused to catch her breath. "I hate you, Nightpaw. I hate you with all my heart and trust me when I say we will never, /ever/, be friends." The words broke her and hot tears were streaming down her fur and landing under her. Something the she-cat seemed to finally realize, the look of satisfaction filled her eyes leaving the she-cat full of hurt. Finally looking away she spoke, words hushed. “At least you have a family…I have no blood of my own here. My own father left me and I don’t even know what my mother looks like Vinepaw…you should consider yourself lucky,” she said, giving her one final look before she ran off. Paws hitting the ground in quick succession. She was doing what she did best. Running. Running away from her problems. Running away from the truth behind her origin. She wasn’t a clan cat and she knew that. A renewing sadness filled her heart and sorrowful tears fell from her eyes. She heard the whispers. Seen the side eyes. Her claws stopped when a familiar wooden wall stood in front of her. Lowering her head she put the weight into her legs and jumped.
