HOMELAND It was a stormy and rainy night. All of Stormherd huddled together underneath the safety of a large pine tree. Brave, the Guider of Stormherd lay beside his mate, Faith and his newborn son, Thunder. Brave pricked his ears as he heard rustling up ahead on the dusty clear savannah. He saw two yellow eyes glow from a bush. A cougar was slinking up to the herd. Brave nuzzled Faith. "I have to go," he whispered. Brave shook his dun coat. "Be careful!" Faith told him, her palomino coat gleaming in the moonlight. Brave has fought many cougars and mountain lions before. Brave dashed out onto the savannah, the dusty ground scuffing his hooves. The cougar launched first, sinking it's teeth into Brave's shoulder. Brave gasped and stumbled onto the floor, blood spilling down. "Brave!" Faith cried trying ot rush out. Flint and Ash stopped her. Brave struggled up and reared on his hind legs, kicking the cougar straight into it's eye. The cougar howled in pain, it's eye drenched in blood. The cougar fled into the forest. Brave dashed after it, but as he stood under a tall oak tree, catching his breath a flash of lightning hit the tree. The tall tree began to crash onto Brave. "Brave!" Faith screeched. She yelled into the pitch black sky. The branch erupted on flames as it fell onto Brave. "No!" Faith rushed out onto the savannah where Brave lay, squashed under the tree. Morning stopped her. "Don't go near the fire! You'll get burned!" Morning shoved herself in front of Faith. Suddenly, a shower of rain came down, extinguishing the tree in seconds. There Brave lay, the once ferocious, brave and loyal stallion motionless on the floor. The whole of Stormherd dragged his body out, and took him back under the pine trees. "Mommy, why's dad sleeping?" Thunder asked curiously. "And why are the other stallions carrying him?" Voice cracking, Faith answered. "He's dead Thunder. He won't be coming back." Thunder tipped his head. "For how long?" "Never." Faith answered. "You'll never hear his voice again, see him, talk to him, never." "No!" Thunder wailed. He pressed close to Faith. Faith gazed up to the moon. Brave would be up there now, watching over them."
