He figured that no flowers were able to survive these temperatures. He picked a few and delicately placed them inside the pockets of his cloak. He walked around for a bit more, enjoying the freedom he felt. As much as flying was great, something about walking around an empty snowy wasteland alone was refreshing. It was a nice-needed break from all the stress of ruling. A spruce tree came into view. They were the only trees that seemed to grow around here. It reminded him of the open areas of Rivendell that haven’t been developed yet. He used to beg his parents to let him play there when he was younger. He walked up to the tree and plucked a few leaves, placing them in his pocket. This would do. Scott stretched his wings and flew off, leaving a cloud of snow behind him. His castle came into view, and he couldn’t help but smile. His light blue ice tower stood out against the whites and greys of this mountain. He still was proud of himself; he’d finally been able to control these ice powers. What once was a curse can turn into a blessing, it seems. Snow puffed up as he landed right by the entrance. He entered, hands lightly brushing the cold walls. He walked up the stairs, grabbed the two pots he’d made earlier in the day and placed them on the ledge. One with the spruce leaves, the other with poppies. Poppies. Scott had been trying to ignore the main reason why he was happy when he saw these flowers. But now he was up in his tower, sitting on the edge of his bed, looking across at the sunset and flowers. Only one thing came to mind. Him. His husband, his ally, his friend. His Jimmy. He missed him a lot. They’d both been busy with their respective empires and hadn’t gotten a chance to see each other in months. The blue-haired boy plucked a stem out of the pot and held one lightly. Ever since he’d gotten his ice powers, he was scared to go to the swamps, or even near the cod sanctuary he built. In fear of freezing it. Before seeing the little fishes swim around was enough to damper the longing he had for his husband. Maybe now he could see him. He had enough control of his powers; surly he’d be fine for a little visit? Although, even now, he felt the ice itching to escape, craving to freeze the stem and squeeze out the little life that lived here. Gem flashed in his mind, her surprised look of pain. The white strip in her hair, the little shivers she tried to hide when he started to apologize. The ice in her lake, the fish swimming quickly to get away from the cold. The ice spreading beyond the small bucket in her house to the area around it. He placed the flower back in the pot. He couldn’t hurt Jimmy. He had to stay here. It was better for cod, for everyone. They were safer when he was gone. He couldn’t hurt them that way. By this point the last bits of sunlight were barely visible, and Scott could feel the tiredness in his eyes. He needed sleep. There was work to do, after all. He laid down, and let sleep overtake him. That night he dreamt of flower fields and people with green and red glowing eyes. It had almost felt real. //////////////// yes i know 3rd life came before empires shush let me have this /lh
