Overview of the conflict, made by me: -Prelude- Russia, since the takeover of the country by Putin, has always wanted to restore Russia to its former glory. Countries such as Belarus are already in its hands, and Ukraine is its next target. In 2014, Russia took over and annexed Crimea, a peninsula in Ukraine with many Russians living inside it. Then, two breakaway states known as Donetsk and Luhansk, both with many Russians, fought the Ukrainians. This was bad enough, along with a Russian controlled president in Ukraine at the time, but there was a buildup of Russian troops along the Russian border with Ukraine. Russia claimed it was nothing, until... -The Start of the invasion- On February 24, 2022, Russia recognized the breakaway states and fully invaded their neighbor along with their puppet, Belarus. Ukraine, now with a true leader, fought back, but the superiorly stronger Russia kept going. -NATO- Ukraine's not the only one who doesn't like Putin, the leader of Russia. (Please note that most of the Russian people are innocent, it's mostly Putin. As I noted, Putin took over the country.) NATO, an alliance of European countries, the US, and Canada also disliked Putin. Before the invasion, Ukraine knew of what was coming and desperately tried to get into NATO. However, everyone knew that both sides had nukes, so if there was a war between them, the world would be destroyed, which is not even funny at all. Now that Russia invaded Ukraine, NATO countries had a decision to make: whether to support Ukraine and face nuclear war, or to supply them with weapons with no risks. They chose the second option. -The Ukrainian Response- Some Ukrainians joined the fight for their country, but there was also millions of refugees into neighboring countries such as Poland. The Ukrainians fought valiantly as the Russians entered their capital city Kyiv, and against the expectations, they fought back. -What is happening now- Ukrainians had proven Putin wrong, with their high morale. So, the Russians retreated from the entire northern front and focused only on the east instead. However, this still wasn't enough for the Russians to take over, and the situation reached a stalemate. The Russians tried to re-plan again, but it still wasn't going well. The Russians thought they could take the capital in two days, but it has been three months, and it seemed unwinnable for them. Let's support Ukraine the best we all can.
